  1. hi,

Those wheels look awesome-- thankyou for posting these pics.

Im keen on these wheels for my 71' 240z, so im curious on how tight of fit it is.

How close to the struts(front and rear) and guard lips?

Can you get full lock both ways with steering?

You said it rubs abit after you lowered it, will guard rolling fix this?

Do you think 235/45/17 tyres would fit? (the local made cars use this size so they are dirt cheap- ie $115 Au)

I read that someguy had to use sticky balance weights because knockon ones rubbed- now thats close!!

I'm being anal about this as I'm in Australia and its a LONG way to send these wheels and I wanta be sure that they fit..

    thankyou

    scott

  2. Thats a good web site..

Nice looking gear but a bit too pricey.

$660 is in US dollars right? So prob about $800-900 AUst dollars with freight- Im not sure if they come with rings.

Are the big valve recesses needed--Dont most people use flattops-even with high lift cams?

L28 40thou+(87mm) flattops sell for approx $260 approx here in Australia +$150 for rings , but of course im really keen on 89mm ones.

I'll keep that website if i plan on boosting my budget

  3. Ive done a bit of a search and a few have touched on this but id like more ideas.

I understand that with a LD28 cranl/l24 rods, there are pistons the can be made to fit- with fly cutting etc.

But im more interested in keeping the std l28 crank and rods and just using 120thou flattop oversize pistons- without having to get them made up custom(too much $$$).

Anyone know of any other piston combo that would work.?

    thanks

  4. I was buying some weber jets off this guy and when I got there the jets looked weird- they were threaded- but my DCOE ones are non-threaded.

Does this mean they are IDA jets?

He also had other jets with SOLEX stamped on them-these were threaded too- are these mikini jets?

there was hundreds of both weber and solex jets(air and mains) SO id really like to know what they are for.

    Any ideas?

    thanks

  5. my chokes are a little bigger 32 vs 30- so maybe thats why mine has jets a little bigger.. Mine was dyno tuned before i got it and they had 145 mains in it!- but i had some different jets to play with and the 135 mains "felt" better..maybe that has something to do with the F2 em tubes?

I like the book "weber carburetors" by pat braden(HPBOOKS).

It has the 4 X downdraft IDA carbs that are gold plated and detailed on a chrome V8 manifold on the cover.

It has lots of old school ways to tune webers, a very interesting read even if your carbs are running perfect -just for the understanding of how the weber circuits work. And lots of pics of weber carbs that are sectioned for their inner workings.

  6. Ive played around with cam timing on various 4 and 6 cyl datsun motors and ive only ever made it as gutless as you are talking about by putting it a WHOLE link retarded.

There is appox 40 teeth on the top cam cog-so divide that by 360

    360 divided by 40 = 9

then multiply by 2 to get crankshaft(real) measurement so you are looking at appox 18 degrees difference between teeth.. which is HUGE.

If i recall proper I think the difference between 1 , 2 and 3 is 4 degree each step .

Are you SURE that the cam/crank is on the correct link?

btw my 72 degree semi race cam is on "3" and it feels strong then when it was on "2"(or "1")

  7. so i guess that is

    30 chokes

    200 air correction

    115 mains

    f11 emulsion tube

    45F9 idle jets

    and 40's accelerator jets

    ?????

So how does it run? Any flat spots?

115 mains sound a tad lean but maybe mine is just a tad rich?

Ive finally got some f11 emulsion tubes on mine, but havnt changed anything else though. It has made a HUGE difference, it is much easier to drive. It is now sick below 2000rpm not 3000rpm and i put that down to the big cam(ie very little brake boosting at 1000rpm idle due to low vacuum).. And now it "SINGS" above 4500rpm .. The extra power in the L24 and the amazing sound(both exhaust and induction) is incredible.

I've been driving turbo 4's for a long time now and they sound crap vs my old datsun 6.

Thanks for all the advice(when i change more i'll post here)

  8. hi all,

I was planning on doing the ld28 crank and 89mm piston thing BUT i think i'll go the lamer standard stroke way.

I am hoping on keeping the std l28 crank and fitting some 89mm (120 thou over) pistons that should give 3.0l.

Does anyone know if any standard 89mm pistons will fit, with correct piston height etc(even with diff rods)?

The L series engine calc program is good but i still want more details before I go ahead.(like sussing out oversize head gaskets etc)

    Has anyone done this?

  9. Hi all,

I was wondering if many of us would share our weber jet sizes vs different setup L series 6's.. Just to help others tune their weber fed ZEDs.

My 240z has the original block bored out to around 2.5l with a appox 280-288 degree cam or 74 degree depending on how you read them(tighe cams au-will edit with cam grind number later).

No porting- valve grind - 6,3,2 extractors 2.5 inch system.

Tripple webber 45's on lynx manifold running:

    135 mains

    155 air correction

    32mm chokes

    f2 emm tubes

    35 accerator pump jet

    f955 idle jets

    "sock filters"

This setup gets me appox 21 MPG and revs out very hard above 3500rpm..

BUT is a bit coughy and sick up to 3000rpm which i think is mainly due

the "big" f2 emm tubes and the small 35 acc pump jets.. I also think that the 155 air corr jets is a bit small.

I hope to change the emm tubes to f11(or f15), the acc pump jets to 50's and the air corr jets to around 190-200..and i will post here when i do to show progress.

Anyone else wanta share their setups?

btw anyone else have any extra jets for sale in au(pm me!!)???

  10. I've got a crane xr3000 ignition on my 240z but its got another set of wires coming out of it different to the other pickup/coil wires..

they are black, red, green, white and are thin wires..and 2 of them where bridged.

I've looked at the manuals from the crane website and i cant seem to find any thing about them.

    any ideas???

  11. Looking at whitelines website, the 1600 project has a adjustable caster by:

the caster/radis rod is threaded with nuts on either side of the chassis mount, making the rod shorter or longer, increasing caster..

I contacted whiteline and they dont do adjustable radis rods for 260z's.. Anyone know of anyone who does?(esp in australia)

Or anyother way to do it?

    ta

  12. after spending many, many hours grinding away at my n42 head with a die grinder and now seeing this page I feel like i missed evolution or something.

The head slicing pics are a engineering delight.

I agree with the request for the n42 head pics , that will very handy for the auzzies here--p90 heads in oz are extremely rare.

A quick question..how does these flow figures affect a NA motor with a mild cam --ie 270 or 280 degree with 490 thou lift....Will it make a worthwhile gain???

    keep up the good work.
