  1. I have a 280 with a 300HP 350 installed. The previous owner had dual 1 7/8 inch pipes off of the headers and he never finished the exhaust. The pipes are ran up to the floor pans and cutoff. Is that going to be too restrictive? I was thinking I could move up to 2 inch or better duals back into a 2 to 1 Dynomax super turbo in the standard muffler spot on it or go true dual back to two side by side smaller mufflers. So the opinions I would like are is 1 7/8 too restrictive on a 300HP 300 lb torque 350? Will I lose any power going duals int a 2 into 1 muffler? Is it worth running duals all the way back into a 2in 1 out muffler or is 2 into a y pipe into a regular 1 in 1 out muffler the same? Are there any mufflers that would fit side by side in the regular muffler location? Thanks for the help guys! I have been searching the boards for a while and I see a lot of 2 into Y pipe cars and side pipe cars. Not a ton of true duals specific info.
  2. I dont plan on changing a thing because the car seems to run fine. I just wanted opinions on the 305 head because you guys have quite a bit more knowledge than I on this stuff. This head may very well be a High output head. I better start pulling part/casting numbers if I really want to get more info
  3. Thanks Grumpy. Unfortunately, I just dont know how much was done to the head. Obviously it has to have had some work done to it in order for the car to hit 300 HP at the wheels (porting and dished pistons maybe?). I guess I would be increasing performance by going to an aftermarket head but really, how much more am I going to crank out of stock spec 350?
  4. I have a 78 280Z that came from the PO with this setup. 1974 SBC 350, Bottom end is rebuilt to stock specs with less than 2000 miles on her. Top end is a 305 head(500 miles). 477 lift cam, performer intake, new holley 650 carb, Billetproof distributor, TH350 tranny, Quarter stick shifter, New shorty headers, Gear drive timing. Car was Dyno'd at 297 hp and 305 foot pounds of torque to the rear wheels. Why go with a 305 head? I know that they increase compression and should give more low end power but unless they're ported and opened up a bit dont they constrict air flow on a 350? I am not looking to increase HP, I just want to ensure that this engine setup is fine for a Z. Thanks!
  5. Thanks for the info guys. I really don't mind doing it by hand, I just wanted to hear opinions on how effective they are and if they save time or not.
  6. I was wondering if you guys have any opinions on the quality of your wax job using a buffer/polisher or doing it by hand? I have always done it by hand but with a very busy schedule, I have less time. Would a polisher cut down on the time? I have a orbital sander that is hook and loop. They make buffers that fit onto it for polishing and waxing. Is this something you would suggest using or would you get a polisher made for polishing cars? Thanks!
  7. Apparently the guy who gave me the parts when I got the car ordered the driveshafts ujoints instead of the half shaft ujoints. He told me they were the halfshaft ones so I answered my own question!
  8. I purchased ujoints from Victoria British (part#62-500) to replace the ones in my 72 240Z. I pulled the half shafts and brought then down to get pressed out and the new ones pressed in. They are telling me that the new ones don't fit. When I line them up in the holes they appear too small to fit as they slide right through loosely? Do I have the wrong parts or is there just more to installing them? Thanks for the help?
  9. While surfing the web I came across this site. Has anyone ever seen one of these in action? Is it a gimmick or actually a useful device? I tried to do a search but found nothing on it. http://www.electricsupercharger.com/
  10. Has anyone ordered wheel cylinders or the hardware spring kits from Courtesy Nissan before? I want to know if the hardware kit for rear drums is complete or if you have to order the springs separate from them? The VB kit has all of the springs. Thanks!
  11. I finally got some time to pull apart the brakes on the rear of my Z. (got it two months ago) Does anyone know where I can purchase the spring hardware kits for the drums for a 72 240? I know I can get the shoes from Courtesy Nissan, but they show the hardware kits are no longer available. I know I need to replace the wheel cylinder on one side (bleeder is broke off) so I might as well do everythng while I have it pulled apart. The shoes look like they got some brake fluid on them as they are corroded as hell. On a second note, I pulled the axles because the ujoints need to be replaced. Would you just bring them in to a shop and get them pressed out and the new ones installed, or would you do it yourself? I have heard they are a pain. Thanks for the help!
  12. Thanks for the info. Is this the correct pertronix part number for the ignitor for a 240z? part number 1761 is what I am coming up with for 70 bucks shipped. I found this write up on installing it. http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/ZXPertronix.htm Has anyone used this wiring setup with good results? Thanks, Mike
  13. I am replacing the ujoints on my 72 240Z. Is there anything else I should consider replacing while I have everything pulled apart? I have never done Ujoints so this is a new project for me...
  14. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on ignition upgrades. I currently have the stock distributer and coil in my 240Z. What would be a nice simple upgrade that I could do to get rid of the old points? I might as well do both if I am going to upgrade any of it. Thanks for the help.
  15. Thanks guys. That link does not seem to have NGK plug wires. NGK doesn't rebadge their wires or anything do they? I called NGK and they don't have a part number for 70-73 anymore. They have a 2.8 l6 part number (ne61) and an old part number for the 240Z's (N61A) Anyone have any problems getting these wires?
  16. Does anyone know where to get NGK plugwires for a decent price online? I don't see a place to get them on the NGK site and can't find a place that tells me what part # I want. http://www.clubplug.net/retail_wire_ngk.html has the plugwires but I don't know what kit I need for a 72 240Z. Thanks...
  17. I have a 72 240z that is stock with 103k miles on it. I am looking for suggestions for spark plugs (part number) and wires. I live in Minnesota so we get the wonderful 100 degree humid days and well as the cold falls/winters. I won't be driving it in the winter but a nice fall day to see the colors is definately not out of the question. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I purchased this car only recently so I am just starting to get an idea of how fun these cars really are. My father had a 70 when I was a kid so it was only natural for me to want one when the wife gave the okay for a toy
  18. Very interesting. Thanks for the info guys. I am just going to pull them off and search for some kind of indentifier on them. They look very nice on my car but I like to know everything I can about what I have
  19. No, they look very similar to these except they have an ET on the center.
  20. They are steel. I looked at the weld draglites page and they look very much like these but I am not sure they are the exact same. Do you have any info on these "ETmags"?
  21. They do have holes cut out in a pattern around the rim. I was hoping the ET on the center would be able to give someone an idea as to the make/model. Thanks for the help!
  22. I purchased a 72 240Z and I am trying to determine what kind of rims are on it. I am not very familiar with rims so bear with me if I sound silly. I will post a pic as soon as I can but here is a description. Chrome rim with an "ET" on the center cap. The design on them is 1-1.5 inch cut out circles running around the rim. The guy told me they were 60 series rims but I have not seen rims that look like these before. Any help would be great!
