  1. It was me and three friends when I put my 280 shell on the rotisserie. It takes a moment to get everything lined up to mount the car and you really need the stability of four people- plus one (my wife) to slide each end on.

lucky... putting mine on involved me and my brother. me, standing between my fuel cell rails, lifting like hell, and my brother guiding the stand. ended up using: big SUV jack stands, a cherry picker, and alot of cursing.

  2. what welder do you plan on getting, might I ask?

also plan about spending 150+ on cost of steel, probably more depending on your design. make sure you polish up those welding skills before tackling a rotisserie job. If i were to do it again, i'd opt for scrap steel instead of fresh stock.

  3. Well I finally dropped my Z off the rotisserie tonight and I had promised BlueOvalZ' date=' Terry Oxandale, that I would weigh the bare body shell. Of course I promised him this over a year ago when I put it on the rotisserie. :bonk: I have it on four jack stands and bought four cheapo bathroom scales to place under each stand. I added up the weights and subtracted out the weight of the jack stands.

    [b']And the verdict is 520 pounds[/b]

The car is down to bare metal with every ounce of undercoating stripped and the small rails that go under the floor pans are removed right now. The tranny mount has also been removed. I would guess this is 30 to 40 pounds that need to be added back in.

I was a little surpised that it weighed that much as I would have guessed in the 400 pound range. Oh BTW this is an early 260 so it should be similar to a 240. I started with a 240 that I gave up on and I really don't see very many differences when comparing the two body shells.

Just thought this was an interesting bit of trivia I would share with the masses. I've got a great pic of it on the scales but won't be able to post it until tomorrow because I left the cable for my camera at work. I hate it when that happens :twak:

    just did a search.

  4. i definately have. unfortunately i haven't been able to work on my Z as much as I'd like to (completing the 4x4 conversion, possibly going with 35's and/or a front locker). But once i finish, I will keep everyone updated. Worked with fiberglass before (made a simple hood with scoop for my boat), and it was pretty enjoyable, minus the dizziness and itchiness. I would love to have the Z fund itself and at the same time help everyone else out. Also, since i plan on wheel-to-wheel racing, i was planning on having spare panels "just in case".

As far as any tags, none that i saw, and no special markings either.

  5. they rev up very very slow. heavy flywheel' date=' wide and heavy tires just makes it worse on that car.

i always wanted to do a DOHC swap or a 4G63/4 swap to one..

    hey mike,

a starion/conquest is not too far from you!

i've got one of both, 87's, in front of my house! might do the 4g63 swap, but gotta finish the 280 first.

  6. You guys aren't much help. I still haven't been able to locate a starter. My car still sits. Anyone know where I can get a good used SR20DET starter? I have called around still no luck.

$50 shipped on one of those threads. the other one is asking $100.

if i were you, i would pick up a used one and get it rebuilt, i got a guy here that does it for about $30-$60 depending on make and model.

you can always get your starter rebuilt.

you don't want us to hold your hand do you?

  7. Looks like you got your hands on the never seen one off double overhead cam V-12 Datsun engine that Nissan made for Paul Newman. Too bad the dual carbs and FI were so incompataible

if it would be like that, it would be:

One of a kind WI-22 cyl. Datsun/OMC engine with dual side-draft carbs, diesel fuel injection, and a single barrel down-draft on the last 4. also, super-rare dohc/push-rod design. All for a whopping total of 11.4L.

imagine how wide the car would be :).

  8. Tahdah....

    Yasin

nice... what are your plans for it? any chance of a diesel conv.? or just getting the crank?

i remember seeing that veggie z before, sounds pretty cool.

not a turbo manifold, but it would be easy to fab something up for it, i think a to4b or 60-1 would have a nice home on this motor.

  9. Just another peek into the various things that are in my garage.

i'll let the pictures talk for themselves (note: motors were both running when pulled). Not sure what i'm going to do with the l24 and ld28 motors but will most likely sell them to someone that can put them to good use. I don't think i want to stroke the motor i am currently building.

  10. I have a set of the Mikuni's in my garage. If you need any parts for them contact Robello Racing in the bay area (San Fransicso). Great find

I got my set when I bought a 240z from a friends tow yard. I cound'nt get the hood open but I gave my friend dad 150.00 for the car. I took it home cut the latch and found the carbs. Was I suprised' date=' these are great carbs.[/quote']

sounds like a hell of a deal.

    here's more toys:

BRAND NEW electramotive pistons and autometer tach with memory. I guess they would be called, new old stock.
