  1. Remember that you can not use an 81 turbo ecu on the 82/83 turbo's due to the external injector dropping resistors on the 81. The 82/83 turbo's have the resistors in the ecu.

I ran my original auto ecu on my 81 turbo for a while after swapping to a 5-speed tranny. The only noticeable difference was the rev drop off between shifts, but not a big deal. I also have heard that there is no rev limiter in the auto ecu's.

  2. You are correct Mike, the turbos and 2+2 came with the bigger 240mm flywheel. I bought mine used from Roger at the Zbarn, resurfaced for $85. Search on the Spec clutches, if memory serves me right, they were considered one of the better brands. The Centerforce clutches seemed to get a real mix of good and bad experiences.

The Ebay sale looks like a good deal with the flywheel already turned. Just do a little research on the clutch. 395 lbs of torque should be fine for a while LOL!!

  3. Mike, my stock 240mm clutch started slipping around 9 psi. This was a new (forgot the brand name) clutch with less then 3,000 milies on it and a resurfaced flywheel. I've since upgraded to a ACT street performance clutch and it seems to be holding fine. I would suggest upgrading to the 240mm flywheel and clutch now since you plan to move to the dark side soon.

One thing I seem to find with my Z is that I tend to buy everything twice. The clutch is a good example. A cheap clutch the first time around and then a more expensive clutch later.

  4. In the insurance company's defense (can't believe I just said that) they have set your annual rates based on the bluebook value of your car. Because you do not have an appraised value policy on your car, they've based this on the NADA, etc values. It's understandable that that is all they'd be willing to shell out in case of a claim because that's all the insurance you paid for.

This very reason is why I am switching over to collector car insurance shortly with an appraised value. My Z is no show car, but it definitely is worth more then the average bluebook value.

Best of luck with your claim, hopefully your persistenace will win out!!

BTW, I pay close to $3300 / year for my 18 year old son's 2001 Jetta turbo, which to me is insane. In two year's time I will have paid them the entire value of the car!! He's carried on my policy with no traffic violations or accidents. As a matter of fact, the entire family, 4 drivers, 4 cars do not have tickets and we have never filed a claim!!

  5. Thanks for the offer Dave, I think I stared at transom fittings for a while the other day. If that's the best alternative available, then I'll have to run with it and shape the interior portion like you did. I found that the fittings came in a 45 degree bend also which would help direct the air flow towards the compressor wheel.

  6. Not to hijack the thread, but what is the best way to plumb a 1" recirculation line back into the stock AFM/turbo boot? Recirculating my BOV is has been on my to-do list for a while now. I've spent hours at various hardware stores looking for a fitting that would work without creating a restriction in the the pipe. I've also looked through the Jeggs and Summit catalogs. There must be some type of "hose tap" that could be used for this purpose. I may have to replace the stock boot with a hardpipe with the proper fittings but didn't really want to resort to that.

I remember watching an episode of Horsepower TV a while back where they were plumbing a vacuum line into an existing hose. They drilled a hole in the rubber boot and installed some type of tap fitting that matched the interior curvator of boot which was "supplied by the manufacturer" of the device they were installing. Any ideas?
