  1. I want to get another guitar. I currently play a 1986 washburn g-3v. It was a budget guitar in the day and still is. Still is fun to play but still entry level.

Of course I dont want to spend the money for a Gibson S3 or a Fender.

What is the best used guitar value out there. Not looking for investment quality just a step up something I can steal in the $300 - $500 range. Yeah I want to find something that is worth more but only pay a little for it.

Mainly I want an improvement in construction, tuning and the electric components; pickups, switches kobs and jacks.

I posted here cause you have never steered me wrong.

OH BTW car is still running strong and for sale. I just entertained my 57 year old cousing from OK in it. God I love smokin tires.

  2. Mine runs 205 210 all the time night day highway around the block. I think it is a function of poor gas in this modern day and age and fuel delivery in non atomized state. this can cause a blow torch effect where the fuel is not fully combusted at or near tdc and continues to burn out the exhaust port thus heating the engine. I have worked on my issue alot and have worked with Don at:

    http://www.4secondsflat.com/Demon_Tuning_Guide.html

His main suggestion to me was to get the carb and timing tuned correctly. Utilize a quality intake and add a 4 hole carb spacer to help direct the mixture down where is needs to go. Without a 4 hole carb spacer the fuel/air tumbles down past the butterflys in varying concentrations. I am not quite there yet but continue to work on it. BTW his qwork on Mighty Demon is very extensive.

To this day when traveling at 60mph at 3000rpm I can still hear a "burble" ever so slightly in the exhaust note.

it is a great free read and his dowwnload is well worth $10.

At this point I have come to accept 205 - 210 as normal.

I am sure you have run a pressure check on you water system.

And of course sealing around the radiator and all other suggestions are well worth investigating.

  3. I have my car for sale here and autocross.us and on the Virginia Hampton Roads Craigslist.

I got a few bolier plate emails from someone whose english wasn't quite up to snuff about how I should consider my car sold and the check was being delivered. Today I am doing the bills and an envelope appears with a Deutschland 1 euro stamp on it containing a check for $11,400.00. I suppose this is to cover the my price plus the cost of shipping.

Now dont think for a minute that I think this is real.

The check is a typed cashiers check from Navy federal Credit Union.

My question is "What should I do now?"

  4. Sorry cygnus

Better Luck Next Time. Here I really have to plan and schedule when I want to cruise. Mostly it is late night/after midnight when the roads are still. I dont understand those who cruise the right lane at 5mph above the posted speed either and then wont let you by. Yet another reason!

  5. Axelsideways

I appreciate the information. You have changed my mind. I figured it would not be a prudent buy. However this would not be a daily driver.

Also the particular vehicle is at a local private BMW service shop that has been in the area for at least 15 years.

I spoke with the owner of the store and he actually services the cars. I asked him about the LEDs, the oil pump bolts, the radiator, the transmission, etc, all the questionable items that came up on e38.org.

First of all he said he bought this one at auction and it was a piece of SH$T!!

He said the main thing it need was intake system sealing. Many vacuum leaks gave false lean condition to o2 sensors causing faults

He said that the Dash LED clusters had been replaced and were 95% lit

Now I know this guy is trying to sell the car but he is a known business and I dont think it would bode well for him if he were selling stuff that needs more repair than mentioned.

    however I am always skeptical.

He is asking $13,900.00 USD. If I went forward I would like to offer something less. $10k USD

  6. I am looking at buying 1996- 2001 BMW 7 series as a family sedan. I have done a fair amount of research athttp://e38.org/. There are some known issues but those can be solved. I was wondering if any Hybrid Z people had any owenership experience with these cars and any opions.

Right now there is a private Geman service center here that have several different types of used BMWs for sale. The one I am interested in is a Navy Blue 1998 750il. Tan interior. Fully serviced. 130k miles. He had bought it at auction and it had the usual issues of Vacuum leaks, dash LEDs out and had to retorque the oil pump. The displays are replaced and the the whole intake system, which looked complicated, has been re-gasketed. Anyway the though of owning a 12 cylinder car is very tempting. And it is priced right. It wouldnt be my primary driver as I have an old pickup but toting me and 2 kids in a single cab truck gets old.

OH BTW I got V80z up for sale again if anyone is interested. New cv boots all around!!!

  7. Well I got this done. Not as hard as I thought it would be. I finally found this post. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=116211&highlight=cv+boot.

Admins it needs to be made a sticky!!!!

Thanks to all who went before me.

I cut the first band axially like in the pics of the thread above. The 2nd one I just cut the bent lip off around the circumference of the band so as not to damage the o ring.

Now that I understand I have another set to rebuild and will try JohnC's method of heating the bent lip and opening them up that way.

I got my kits from Rock Auto. I will post the brand later. They did not come with a new O ring. they did come with a snap ring the sixe of a quarter. the outer tripod came off with a press and I did not remove any snap ring. So I did not use the snap ring. I guess some models had snap rings instead of press and peen?

  8. I promise I have diligently searched. There does not seem to be any straightforward method. I read the thread about Raxle.com and I read Terry Oxandale's coverage of the issue. Is there a thread out there I missed?

If not I need to replace both inner and out boots on my CV shafts. The original boots seem to be wedged between the sheet metal covering of the joints. I have had them in with cygnusx cv adapters and the have been working fine. I noticed some grease build up in the area and have taken them back out for rebuild. I have boot kits. I just want to know the best way to go about this without tearing anything up.

    thanks

    Joe

  9. Here is Mr. Albo's reply to my email and my response

Thanks for writing. Sounds like you have heard about the “Abuser Fee” bill from the internet. There is an article floating around that is completely misleading. There is no such thing as a $3000 traffic ticket. Like many things on the internet, the information out there is unreliable.

Sorry you don't like the bill. In short, the premise of it was that people with good or even normal driving records should not have to pay the same amount as those who break the laws or amass a large number of tickets. I don't think its fair for you to pay the same as the guy who is driving drunk, reckless or who gets four tickets in one year.

I have a good driving record. I rarely drive the Virginia Interstate System. On the occasions that I do I typically set my cruise at 70 – 75 mph when there is light traffic. I have never been ticketed or warned. Is it correct to assume that the Abuser Free Bill would not apply in this situation?

As for your allegation that I am using my office for my personal benefit, please excuse me if I get mad, but I have never used my House of Delegates position to benefit me personally. In fact, I lose tens of thousands of dollars doing this job. Specifically to address your allegation on this Abuser Fee bill somehow benefiting me, quite simply, this is an utterly false allegation. There is not a rational person in the world who would hire me, or any attorney, for $1,200 for an un-guaranteed possibility that they would get out of a $900 or $1050 ticket. I am offended that you would think that I would use my office to advance myself. My take-home pay from the House of Delegates is $900/mo. I don't do it for the money, I do it because I love the neighborhood in which I grew up and am trying my best to make it a great place to live.

If I were ticketed under the Abuser Free Bill I would be facing 6 points on my license and a total of $3550 over the next few years. I would seriously consider hiring representation and who would best understand the Abuser Free Bill than you?

In my efforts to make our neighborhood a great place to live, I have been listening to my constituents in Springfield and South County. I have been living here since 1970. And everyone has one main complaint - transportation. People have been complaining, asking, begging for years for a solution to the transportation nightmare. One constituent noted that since it takes him 1 1/2 hours to get to work, he can't be an SYC soccer coach for his kids. Long commutes means that none of us can otherwise have a life outside of work. Three hours a day in a car is a waste of a life, and I intend on solving the problem.

I agree whole heartedly. I have chosen not to live in Northern Virginia because the commute times are very long and personal/family time is more important than $30k - $50k extra income each year.

So a number of years ago I started trying to find a way to build some roads. Along with other Delegates from NOVA, we put in bills to pay for NOVA roads with existing revenue. If you look at some of my bills, you will see bills to change the transpo funding formulas, bills to make the rest of VA send us $ for roads, bills to allow NOVA to keep some of the money it sends to Richmond to pay for its own roads. Every year, year after year, the bills were killed. The bottom line is that NOVA has 21 Delegates and the rest of VA has 79. And the 79 refuse to send $10,000,000 of their funds to NOVA.

I was unaware and understand the frustration.

So, what I wanted to do was not possible.

So what was left? The way I look at it, we could do nothing, whine and cry about it and therefore never build a new road in NOVA, or we could we could solve the problem.

I decided to solve the problem.

Solving the problem required raising a lot of money. I rejected general tax increases proposed by the Senate. I rejected their gas tax, income tax and sales tax increases. I wanted to look at user fees. Activities that generate traffic, and raise money off of those activities.

The story goes on much longer, but to get to the point that you wrote: How did the Abuser Fees come about?

Well one idea was to charge every driver $10-$20/yr to raise $ for roads. Instead, I thought, "Why should good drivers, the drivers who don't break the laws, pay the same as those who break the laws?" Thus, the Abuser Fee concept was born. We looked at NJ. They have had such a plan in place for years.

I fail to see your reasoning. All commuters in NOVA, abusers or not, use the roads. They should all pay for the improvements!

Our plan charges about 4.5% of the drivers in VA. That means that 95.5% of the drivers pay zero. It charges large fees for the commission of traffic crimes (any traffic offense which is punishable by jail time e.g. Reckless, DWI, Driving on a Suspended License, Vehicular Manslaughter, etc.) and those with a large amount of DMV demerit points - any person with a -8. (Note that you can have as good as a +5. And any person who hits a -8 just needs to take a safe driving course on line and get another +5. Thus a -8 is really a -13, which is equivalent of getting 4 moving violations in one year).

So there you are. Sorry you don't like the idea, but I had to build some roads. If you had a chance to read the Post on Friday, you would have noted all the roads being built in our area. I-95 widening at Newington, the completion of the Fairfax Co Pkwy, widening of Rolling, Light at Rolling and Barnack, new Metro and VRE cars.

I am sure you have thought of this idea. What if the DMV placed $.25 toll booths at the entrance ramps to the interstate system? How much revenue do you plan to generate with the abuser free bill? I don’t think it will be enough to affect any serious solutions for the commuter issues of Northern VA.

  10. All those driving in Virginia can you believe this?

Here is a copy of the email I sent my State Delegate

    Ms. Rapp

I sent this message to David B. Albo.

“Mr. David B. Albo, Leading the introduction of a bill in our state law system to line your own pockets is completely deplorable. I hope your term as a state delegate is not renewed and that you sir are disbarred.â€

I find this new law overbearing and oppressive. Please tell me there is something we can do to repeal this law. The purpose of this law, as listed, is to generate revenue. Hasn’t the Commonwealth of Virginia better ways of generating revenue than placing overbearing taxes on private citizens? This is completely outrageous.

  11. I am one of the guys that did not read the whole thing. After 12/6 turning one crank rotation sound like a good simple method. My book had me turn the crank till certain lfters were rocking, I cant remember which. But I remember wondering why my ignition seemed off.

    thanks Corzette and Grumpy.

Just proves to me there are no, fill in the blank, question!
