  1. Need driver's side glass for a '78 Z.
  2. I understand. I searched BCDD, and a LOT of stuff came up. I read posts til my eyes blurred. I remember reading that, but I can't be sure that it was definitely tied to the BCDD, or air regulator or something else entirely. Keep up the good work !
  3. That , sir, was awesome ! That will be my first priority, at least when I get home from Chicago this week. Maybe that will teach me to leave well enough alone. BTW, what's the deal with the 10 mph ? I thought I remembered reading that it was tied to the speedo somehow, but I read through so many threads and posts, it's all a little foggy now. Thanks again, this forum by far has the best activity and knowledge that I have found so far !

Once again, '78 Z , stock , except for CAI. I made the mistake of removing and cleaning my throttle body on Saturday. Actually that was ok, but I removed the BCDD and cleaned it as well. Must have been stuck, because now I have a high idle at anything above 10mph. It can go as high as 2k, but when I get below 10mph, it comes down. I searched the forum, and lots of people recommend just removing it completely. I'm all for it, but have not found any info on the do's and don'ts of this process. What needs to be blocked off, etc. When I block off the airflow from the air regulator valve, it does not help. I even downloaded the "EFI bible" from a link on the search results, it's good info, but not very specific. If you have done this, I could use the advice. Info is great , pics are awesome, thanks .
  5. May just ignore it, until I can replace it , that will fix it for sure....I hope.
  6. Panzer, if so , what's the solution, if any ? The main thing that made me think it was the gauge itself was the fact that it would hang at 1k even with the engine off. I'll try to check those again today. They seemed clean and tight when I last looked.
  7. I found a place online that has autometer tachs that fit the factory spot in the dash. It's a white faced tach, but looks okay. May go with that. Plenty of factory used ones for okay $ but the refurbished ones are big $$$.
  8. '78 280Z , all stock except for a CAI installed by previous owner. Usually when cold, tach is fine. After some seat time, even in normal driving, tach seems to have a mind of it's own. It will read a higher rpm than I am driving at, and sometimes after engine is cut off, it will hang at about 1000 rpm. If it's showing high while running, a quick bump on the dash above it will drop it down some. Same for when it's off, if it's stuck at 1k just bump it, and it will come down some, but usually not completely. Next morning, good as new until hot. Sound like I'm gonna be buying a tach soon doesn't it ? Looking for input, thanks.
  9. One would think they would be nearly equal, but who's to say. I tell you what has helped. There will be naysayers, doubters, I was skeptical, but after my wife said, it's quieter, what did you do..... The proper dose of marvel mystery oil in the tank. I know, I know, I'm not a wonder in the can type either, but it was suggested, and it has helped. may come back with a vengence when I run a tank without it, but halfway into this one, and it is better. So much so , that I now believe I hear a hint of detonation when I rev it up(believe that was mentioned out of the gate, sorry) . I will try pulling back the timing a little tomorrow, and see what's up. Maybe it's just a twist of fate that they got quieter now, who knows. Time will be the ultimate judge here.
  10. Yet another good idea.Thanks
  11. That's cool. Thanks for the cold lash numbers, I may double check it to be sure. It seems that some are just louder than others. I had another '78 years ago, not quite so loud, then I had a '79 that was pretty quiet. Seems the ZX's may be a little more quiet than the Z's. Some good info, here, most of the other forums are dead,or full of teenagers street racing and putting on wings and such. Cool if that's your thing, but it's not mine. Thanks again.
  12. I've done so much, I tend to forget. Also in addition to new plugs, I have new wires , cap, rotor, and coil. All of which made it run smoother, but no change on the noise.
  13. Crap, left that out, sorry. I adjusted the valves the first week , hot, .010" intake, .012" exhaust. Same day I flushed out the possibly 31 year old brake fluid ( yuck! ) That crap was as black as the tires. I used an automotive stethescope to try to pinpoint it, and it seems to be the injectors, as sure as I can be anyway. Anybody got any cold valve lash numbers ? I could check it both ways.
  14. Hello all, New to this forum, but not to Z's. I have just recently acquired a '78 280Z with the 5 speed. The car is all original, almost no rust, and the interior is in very good, just shy of excellent , shape. My previous Z cars had this issue, but not as bad. I have the dreaded injector tick, and it is loud ! At high revs, it sounds like spark knock. The plugs are a nice tan color and clean and also new. No indications of lean running anytime. I have checked the timing and it checks out at 10deg BTDC. Adjusting it has no effect. Naturally the injectors are the original 31yr old units. Are new injectors the only solution ? The engine has a rebuild in it's near future, hopefully with a stroker kit, but until then, do I have any options ? Thanks in advance for your help. Nice forum by the way, much more activity than the other Z forums I lurk around.
