  1. I have been reading (long enough) everything I can get when shearching for this kind of set up. I have a fullt restored N42 head all stock, a fully restored F54 bloc .050 over bored with flatvtop piston. 72 S.U. (i like them and do not plan to change them). And stock ignition, but I do plan to upgrade it. I know I know, this will ping and it those. Enough to blow my head gasket...I learned to read more (and this "class" cost a lot lol) So now, I ordered a 2mm MLS head gasket, a pack of ARP head stud and the edge in the head chambers will be nicely remove. The thing I want to do is, not run super rich and full retard. This kills hp. I want the more reliable engin I can do with that. I have read a lot and I dont realy know how to calculate what cam I need. I readed someone still had ping with a 286 cam... I would like to have a good dayli engine, of course I will race it sometimes, but I have a AE86 for that. Anybody has done this set up before or can give me a hint? I never bought a cam before netheir so a good brand would be a start. My friend keep telling me to change my springs if I change the cam, but I never realy readed about valve floating in a L engin, am I wrong?
  2. Half shaft u joints. The moog did not fit because they were a .100 too large, I could not fit the E clip. I remember my original are 56mm from top to top. The moog were like 57mm... I dont have the part number anymore, I already have brought them back.
  3. Thank you all for the answers. I will probably go for an aftermarket Lsd bolt on into my R180. I am not a drag guy. I need new half shaft U-Joint. I order 4 from the local partstore. 30$ eah, MOOGs U-Joint. Did not fit. I could not slide the E-clip back. So as I compare my original with the MOOGs, I notice the MOOGs were a little larger than my original. So now I dont realy know where to get good ones. If I remember correctly the originals were 56 mm. Anyone encounter this before me? thanks a lot again, this forum is so helpfull!
  4. Well you answer my question, r180 should be fine if I do not dumb the cluch to often.. Joker81, you're point is interesting. I will look for that. Do you have any suggestion?
  5. I'm building a N/A L28 for my 72 240z. My actual need is not much horsepower, something around 200-230hp. Just something to have fun. I should tell you that I may not be a burnout guy but I enjoy a lot donuts and drift. I do lapping on weekend and the car will be almost a dayli as well. So some say you need a R200 others say you don't if not turbo etc etc.. The sure thing is I will go lsd sooner or later. For now I'm staying with the original 4 speed but I might change my mind. I've read a lot about diff ratio to, 3.9 seems to be the most popular. (if I need to change)
  6. Well, i'm sorry for breaking the rules! From the history I have with my past cars, I believe a good torque a low rpm and 200-220 hp is enough for me, all I realy need is an lsd So i guess I'll stay with the itm. Thanks a lot everyone, this was realy helpful!

  9. I bought a set of weather strip on thezstores.com and everything fits well. There is just the back glass that I can't fit. In fack, it blow in my face while I was trying to fit it all on the car. Anybody ever did it himself? I need a hint.
  10. That is well explain, thank you. My expectation were max 7000 rpm... The ITM pistons are 300$ delivered, costum forged piston is more like 900$. My plan was to put triple mukunis next winter. What do you think I should do? I think I'll buy the ITM.
  11. Hi, As the title said, I' m looking for L28 .020 oversized flat top piston. I am building an NA L28 and I want the flat top piston for higher compression ratio. All I can find are ITM piston. I dont know this brand and I want to be sure of what I buy first, since the engin will be floored very, very often. Anyone who had the same trouble?

  13. Finaly Napa in my home town will rebuilt my engin. the machinist being have been building race engin for several decenies so I heard he is good. brand new everything in the engin but the crank and connecting rod. I'm buying act stage 2 clutch ans black coated headers 6-2-1. My S.U. will do the job until I can afford 40 mm Mikunis.

  24. I'm realy close from montreal yes. I should meet with a guy who built engins for raceboats (regates) for decenies in a week or two. He is equiped to do a lot of nice works so I am looking forward to meet him. Roger280zx, since I will stay na, i would like to go in higher compression ration. I need new piston and my engin needs work so i'm thinking oversizing it a little bit. I guess I'll see when I meet the guy.
  25. Hey thanks for the answer guys, By only speaking english, I mean I'm a french canadian and I (almost) never write in english. I only speak it. The S.U. are running on my L24, but the engin wont go over 4500 rpm. I never realy tried tu tune them. I Guess I was scared of it... I actualy kind of regret it, i should have tryed it at least... I guess it's ok since I will instal them on the 2.8 and than I'll have to tune them. Today I bought an F54 bloc and the N42 head for a peanut. I'll start working on them as soon as can! I cant wait, I'm so excited! Stock cranckshaft (will probably be fully balanced) Stock connecting rod I need flat top piston Head is stock with stock cam, it will need work. I plan on a lot of reading because I want to do the most I can miself and do it well. I dont think I can afford to go straight with the triple carb, these cost a lot and I prefer to make sur everything else is just as I want it. Can anybody explain me how to post picture here? I would like to show you the work that have been done!
