What is your budget? A stock L28 makes around 120HP at the wheels. What are your HP goals?
Were hoping to completely restore the car for 6k plus paint.

I think your decision is largely going to be decided by how much you are willing to spend. I think triple sidedrafts are gorgeous, as well as ITB's, however, they're the upper echelon of price for both carbs and FI respectively. If you've got the money to spend than they're great, look awesome, sound even better. But for all around tunability you cant easily beat a megasquirt setup even on the stock manifold. But if you really like teh carbs, than a good set of well setup SU's is hard to beat. It'll have slightly less mileage than a super well setup fi, but it's all in the tuning from there.
Im referring to stock efi.
And as far as the visual aspect goes this wins:

Are you sure you have flat tops? If so, your CR is around 10:1. Does it have a stock cam?

Sorry guys i messed up my motor description check it again.

I have an l28 with n42 heads and dished pistons. (8.3 compression ratio)
Id like to get some good horsepower without turbo or an engine swap, so I am looking at high performance pistons, or an entire head swap. Which would you recommend, and where could I get 1mm overbored, flat top pistons for my engine, without spending 800 for this:http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/PEM04/10-4080

I am trying to decide between fuel injecting my 280z, using the single holley carb, or using a hybrid with dual su manifolds connected to two throttle bodies and the injectors in the manifold. The FI or hybrid method I will use with megasquirt. I just love the way a carbureted engine looks, and the stock efi looks horrible.

Sure it is. You'll need to find the right TB's like the member that RTz linked to. But it looks like he took the SU mani and cut off the bottom of an EFI manifold and welded them together. If you just wanted to add injectors I don't think it would be too difficult, but I would def. recommend that you TIG it or have someone else TIG it. I'm not sure that you could get away welding alloy that old without cracks. Or at least I couldn't
Alright what kind of shop would I talk to about welding it?

i would like to do two performance throttle bodies, on the dual su intake manifold, with fuel injectors in the manifold, and a mega squirt laptop tuned setup. Is this do-able?
We already have the intake manifold, and fuel injection system for the car.

One of our members has converted his SU's to Throttle Body Injection... http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=136397
Another member is using the SU manifolds with 280ZXT throttles (could use SU's) for Multiport Injection... http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=124201
Regarding MAF... It may not be worth the expense and trouble to use a MAF sensor. Most people will be happy with a MAP sensor providing the load data.
Hmmm, I may do that system, its EXACTLY what I was trying to describe in my post. (although I didn't have the tb idea). Could the injectors be welded in with a mig welder?

Don't use RUSTOLEUM. Ive read up alot on this and using BRIGHTSIDE marine paint works WAY better, is more durable, and uv resistant.

Our plan for exhaust is 3-2 headers, into dual pipes down to where the spare tire well used to be, into a home built muffler that is two entries, with a y pipe inside, making four outlets. The inside pipes will be drilled and there will be some kind of filler inside the muffler outside the pipes. The 4 exit exhaust pipes, will then dip down and exit out a cutout in the bottom of the rear valance.
Anyone have any ways to up this design at all? Ill be sure to post pics and a write-up in a few weeks.

I'd do some work on your SUs. I have almost the same setup and I can twist mine up to 6000 with power. I used to top out much lower than that (maybe it was around 4000) when my SUs werent balanced.
Wow, i'd like your budget if you consider those inexpensive!
didnt read the inexpensive part lol

Do most carpet kits have the seating holes pre drilled? We are going to move our seats back and remove the rear seats but We don't want random holes in the carpet

Not smart ass answer:
High compression flat top pistons
Upgraded exhaust manifold and carburetor
High flow exhaust and headers
Racing Camshaft

You couldnt somehow put the fuel injectors in the carb, so you could use a computer to control the a/f mixture, and it wouldnt get off at high rpms?
-
Could you make a plenum for carbs, with a an maf sensor in it, that controls the fuel injection?
-
Mate, don't double post.
It doesn't go down well on this forum.
You could use the extra space for some toolboxes/storage boxes like some of the coupes have.
Sorry about double post, and I am mounting my spare tire where the seats used to be, removing the spare tire well, and doing dual exhaust with 4 tips coming out of the center of the rear bumper.

Ive got a 76 2+2 and The back seats have so little leg room they are pointless so we are removing them. We plan on moving the front seat brackets back 4 inches when we re upholster the interior, so this will give us some room behind the seats. Im not a big speaker person, so what would you put back there? We're thinking the battery would be nice, anything else?
Also for the seats, we would like some sport seats (not full blown racing seats) although if we move the seats back harnesses may be our only choice). Are there an seats that sell in a good cloth, that would be readily available, so we can do our headliner in the same material?

Were probably going to remove the back seats and move the front seat brackets back for more leg room. Then we are going to mount the battery behind the drivers seat. What else can we use the extra space for?
Garage paint setup

We want to get a setup for painting cars in our garage, and we need a compressor that can stand up to the task, on a budget.
Shoot me some ideas.
