  1. BMW M60 V8 engines have sintered 143mm (5.629 inch) conrods.
  2. Thanks I'd love to see an M60 with a flat plane crank..it would sound heavenly Here's an 540iT/6 (M60B40) with Eisenmann: That Eisenmann one sounds especially good...I love that high pitched, smooth running sound They are also very cheap, you can easily find them at your local junkyard for less than 500 bucks Unfortunately (or fortunately, if you're that kind of guy ), it would be rather uncharted territory - I don't think anyone's ever put a 180 crankshaft in one, lol.
  3. The GT40 thread is here: http://www.gt40s.com/forum/gt40-tech-engines-induction-exhaust/26188-flat-plane-crank-sbf.html. I wish she had a flat plane crank, I've got the OE unit in my car: There is decent aftermarket support - Vac sells a lot of valvetrain parts for it: http://store.nexternal.com/shared/StoreFront/default.asp?CS=vacmotors&StoreType=BtoC&Count1=748287379&Count2=665427803&Keyword=m60&Target=products.asp The engine is an absolute tank, I saw a youtube video of one being traded in for cash for clunkers (nearly cried ) and it took like 5 minutes for the engine to seize after the liquid glass treatment!
  4. Hey fellas. Don't have a Z but certainly do admire the early 240/260/280's, those are some sweet cars. Great thread, absorbing a lot of info, have read through almost everything Anyway, I found this thread after some prolonged research in to flat plane crankshafts (some guy one the GT40 thread linked over here).. To throw another engine in to the mix, may I suggest a BMW M60 V8? Which not very compact (90 degree, quite wide), they are very modern with 4 valve actuated by dual overhead cams and hydraulic tappets, relatively high compression (10:1 and 10.5:1)..They come in two flavors, the 3.0 and the 4.0 (the 3.0 has the 10.5 comp while the 4.0 has the 10:1).. And of course, they are a very light aluminum alloy, they just about 318 lbs. The 4.0 has a bore/stroke of 80/89mm and 143 mm conrods.
