I wouldn't do it, the sudden and dramatic temperature changes may crack something.

I walked into the local speed shop and ordered the pieces to build this a few years ago. Don't remember the specs off hand but it did cost $250ish Canadian dollars. Mikuni Solex carbs.
It will nicely match this:

I'm liking those shaved headlight buckets. I'm liking them a lot. You have a very good looking car there.
I was looking for a smooth black look, did you notice the drip rails/door handles/cowl vents are all gone also? Bumper mods and widened rear also. Borrowing an idea is the ultimate compliment.....I've done my share.

Here's my Z, powdercoated the trim. There's a few more pics in my album

My car is a 1976. I modified mine by moving the mounts back (slotted the holes) and cutting out the inner structure on the bumper and rebuilding a recessed mount. Welded some new ends on and smoothed out any mounts/bolt holes. It's painted black in the last pic, I'll eventually get them powder coated. Here's what I ended up with....

Very nice! thanks for taking the time to share your build / eye candy with us.

My Z will be a weekend driver only and I like the smooth look, I shaved mine. Don't have it on the road yet so can't comment on functionality. Here's a pic. If it's your car, do what you want with it, just educate your self first.....good thread.

Black with blacked out chrome....

I've changed the 4 springs on my 76 doing what you want to do. Pry down the lower control arms and you should be able to get it out from under the fender....to bad I didn't take a pic.

I doubt that it has anywhere's near the airflow needed and would act as a restriction.....stuff a dead squirrel in your intake, it would work just as well.

Here's a pic of the entire bench. 12' long, 1/4" top.

Here's a couple pics of a mount I built into my bench. It could be used for a drill press, vise mount or many other things.

John, I don't want to hijack your thread (here's a link http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=113913 )but I couldn't resist throwing in a pic of a metal model I made a few years ago. Nice car!

Do you have much undercoat on the bottom of the car? The sand won't take that off, you will need to heat/scrape, wire wheel / grind or something first. The blaster will do a great job on the rust and old paint.

Thanks for the pic and the link, that is very cool. There's a casino in Calgary that has a big horse out front that is made from chrome car bumpers, similar idea as the wolf. Really neat effect. Thanks for the idea.

Congrats on the baby, I hope you enjoy him as much as I enjoy my 15 month old daughter. Ever thought of getting an overhead projector and shooting pictures on the nursery wall, trace them and paint em in. Pick the pics you like and photocopy on clear and have fun. Z cars and nursery decorating pretty diverse site we have here.

And a "Datsun" itself is nothing more than a Nissan product masquerading as something else. What's your point?
Nothing is sacred here on Hybrid Z.
You got it 280Z Turbo, if you like it....keep it. If you don't remove it! (Think twice about it if your an every day driver). No puritans in here and different tastes are allowed.

thats gonna be quite the hood onament....
Good idea, if I angle the wings correctly I could get some extra downward pressure on the front wheels. Actually here's a pic of the hood ornament I made for my brother in law's Peterbilt

Thanks guys, just to make the thread legitimate, here's a pic of it in front of my 76 Z

Thanks Jimbob, here's a few more recent pics of the eagle. Up to about 200 feathers now, only 80 more to go. I may consider selling it, but keep in mind I have a crazy amount of hours into it.
-
I remember elongation the holes where the hood mounts to the hinge to line mine up.
-
I'd use a cutting wheel on a right angle grinder. Cut the head off and tap the remainder through the hole. A Dremel would work too but be a lot slower
-
I shaved my drip rails and powder coated the rest of the chrome black. Here's a pic:

isn't going over the radiator going to heat the incoming air?
e_racer your probably right, but there is a lack of other options as space is pretty tight. All of the aftermarket stuff is built to go over the rad also. I hope that having the rad fully encased in the shroud offers some sort of a buffer.
