  1. Watched a video in auto class last nite and they mentioned this! The only thing they said to do was rev up to 2K, and take foot off gas. If the tach needle drops in steps instead of smoothly, then there is an exhaust restriction. You've probably already done this though... Owen
  2. Someone emailed me a while ago but I lost the address. Anyway, the question was, how did I get the gauges to get that "sunken-in" to the gauge pod. All I did was remove the stock black bezels from the stock gauges, painted the ugly silver Autometer gauge rims black, and mounted them using c-shaped brakets and spacers. Oh, the stock bezels are put in first (from behind) then the Autometers. May need cardboard or something to get the height right. Will have a few new pix up on my site soon, gave them a cool bluish green glow! Owen
  3. Anyone recommend a good AFR gauge? I heard that none of the ones under a couple thousand dollars are good for tuning. But I still wanna know what my engine's doing. Don't have the patience to build one either. Owen
  4. Really? So what's all that fluid that dumped out in the back of my CRX? Do these things use two kinds of fluids or something? The drain and fill plugs are there for something I believe. I should open it up one day. What's the address to that Yahoo group? Owen
  5. My car is a mess too, PW 18 circuit kit but I added so many gauges and stuff after the harness was installed, I've had to splice and add wires etc. Plan it out. The most add-ons I encountered were ACC, GND, and dash lites which are hooked up to the parking lites. For GND, I ended up ripping everything out and creating a post like a battery post with various GND wires coming to it. They are held on by the crimp-on fish eye connectors. Will probably do that with the ACC too. Owen
  6. Looks like I missed this post. The new info is at http://www.hybridz.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=000497 or if you do a search you have to use Midnite instead of midnight. Owen
  7. Hey Tim240z, didn' you grind those fins off??? Another question, is the R230 a 1-way, 1.5-way, or a 2-way diff? The difference, in my limited knowledge is how the diff acts under deceleration. Can the person with the Inifinity tech friend answer this? Owen
  8. I'm sorry, I'd loose about 48% of what? Power? Heat? Thanks, Owen

    Battery box

Can someone point me to a site of the battery installed (preferably in a box) in the rear storage compartment location of the 240Z? I've been wanting to do this but am too lazy to figure out where to cut... Owen
  10. That little quarter-sized thing can lift 25 pounds! I wonder how hard it would be to pry off the magnet after it's attached itself to something? I say this because I haven't found a good oil plug magnet and don't want to remove my oil pan now either. So...if I just stuck it to the outside...I'm sure it would pick up a lot of crap from the ground, but I could dip the magnet into that rubber coating dip stuff too? I could probably make an engine hoist with a couple of those things Owen
  11. First the floors, then the subframes, then the cage, then the fuel cell...will I ever be finished?! For my cell install, I would've had less of the box sticking up out of the floor if I had chosen to mount the whole thing lower. But I just didn't like the way the box looked hanging out the bottom of the car, and I didn't want people messing with my car since it's a street car. I can just see some kids trying to steal my fittings from under the car in the parking lot at Ralph's... Also, my fuel cell is 1 inch taller I believe. I had a look at Tim's car, the cell box is done really nice, you should go visit him sometime. Owen
  12. Don't know how well bondo would hold up. That stuff also shrinks as it absorbs water with time too. I personally use Evercoat, it's a fiberglass resin epoxy kinda thing? Anyways, it's water proof and is applied just like bondo. How about some silicone sealer? Owen
  13. Heh, who knows. Maybe I can get some. What sucks is they weren't locking lids. I really need a solution to the "lift up the hatch and fill the cell" method. And my batt box is totally blocking the stock filler location from the inside. Maybe I'll put the filler door on the other side of the car? Owen
  14. I can't find the thread but I just updated the main thread the other day with movie lists. Do a search, if you can't find it I'll repost a movie listing. Owen
  15. Mine are off a 2nd gen RX7 Owen
  16. Or free from my friend at Mitsubishi Owen
  17. I'm in my auto class last nite and this guy rolls up in his brother's 280z. From far away I immediately notice something weird in the gas filler area so I take a closer look. The guy had the flip-up filler cap from the newer Mitsubishi Eclipse (or Spyder?) in place of the original door. Looked really racy and would look even better if it was smoothed in. Seems like the Audi TT has a pretty good looking design as well. Owen
  18. Sounds like something I'd like to try one day! Can I use a propane torch to heat the pipe? BTW, I have Hooker ceramic coated block huggers too. Tried the Dynomax block huggers first but found it impossible to screw the spark plugs in. Owen
  19. I have Autometer H2O temp, oil temp, and fuel level gauges in the top 3 holes. I made a plastic facing to replace the heater control panel and mounted oil pressure, fuel pressure, and next my voltmeter when it comes in. The radio is mounted on the same plate underneath the gauges. Owen
  20. What about an Optima battery? Mine's been sitting on my garage floor for two months and when I last checked, it was 12.4V. Owen
  21. When driving that's the alternator voltage I think....that means that there very well could be something discharging your battery. As mentioned above, a short drive isn't going to charge your battery, guy at a gas station once told me to drive at least 10 miles? Owen
  22. Do they die completely and not allow you to recharge them? Have you been recharging during the course of that one year? There's no way that radio could drain your battery so quickly. You mentioned this time of year but I'm sure you've bought batteries that stand up to the cold in your location. Hopefully your batteries are under warranty. Have you done hydrometer tests, etc? Possibly your charging system is not working correctly or something else is draining the battery overnite, etc. The only thing I can think of now is to buy a battery elsewhere (get the heaviest one, they have more plating inside which provides greater surface area for sulfation) and maybe changing your starter. HybridZ FAQ

I've got some R230 stuff on my page if you need pix or info. http://v8zcar.topcities.com/s30z/r230.htm My front mount pix are missing but Tim240z has some good design he made. Maybe links to different peoples pages would be helpful in keeping the FAQ down to size? I have the Maxima turn sig swap too. http://v8zcar.topcities.com/s30z/turnsigassy.htm Owen
  24. I have on one tape each: Wangan Midnight 1,2,3 Wangan Midnight 4, Final Wangan Midnight Remake 1,2 (Z vs. gold GTR) Wangan Midnight Returns and Wangan Midnight Special and various Option and Option 2 videos with racing and car shows like Tokyo Auto Salon, not dubbed at all but can take requests. Unfortunately time constraints and my lack of income forces me to raise the price to $15 per tape. Anyone still interested please email me. Thanks. Owen PS Ron, your replacement tape is in process.
  25. Wangan Midnight Replica for me too. Hey S30, what are those taillites youre talking about? I was thinking sidemarkers too, tinted ones. Made my own 432 grill. Let's see this is what we "would" do right?? So, rear diffuser aero hood HID head lights etc etc... Owen
