  1. WOWZERS! SO MANY PEOPLE IN ILLINOIS! Ivan280zt: Havent seen that... in all honesty... (i should be ashamed of saying this) i really dont even see any Zs... the only "well known" one i guess i know of is the yellow one... by body werks... who shows up in HIN. But ams huh? Sweet! I stop by there when we need parts lol.... are you a tech? have you been at kwai and seen the fairlady? Well... we should meet up and talk Zs... lol.. cause we're WORK BUDDIES! lol (a Z in a Mitsubishi shop...hmmm...lol) SBC_400: Garage Kwai is.... or i should say was by One6.... One6 moved.. not that far... closer than AMS.. but yeah.. one6 was .... 3 stores down. Garrett76Zt: I own a 1977 Fairlady Z.... pure bred from Japan. Was wondering... (if all IL people read this thread) anyone else have a Fairlady Z? And I do agree with Oleh... we should have a meet. There is ACTUALLY! lol.. besides windy city Z... which i heard is having.. or had a meet..dunno... there is a car club here in illinois Called JGTCA (Japanese Grand Tourismoo Cars of America) Their website is http://www.jgtca.com. be a member! lol.. no but its great... they meet up every Saturday... normally around Arlington Heights... we have two meet joints... Photos... and Mitsuwa... its FR.... MR... AWD cars. There are a couple of Z owners there... from s30-z32. but def come out if you guys can. im s13.dr|ft in JGTCA forums... so drop few lines if you see me blabbing my mouth
  2. lol...its all good.. we normally deal with hondas/acuras and nissans... my fairlady is the only thing we've touched that is Z related pretty much
  3. Im by chicago area... any of you guys ever heard of an import shop called Garage Kwai? Its located at arlington Heights... 10 mins away from Woodfield mall... thats where i work at... anyone close there?
  4. Sweet... thanks for the info guys. Well... she is a 1977 Fairlady Z... 2/2.... and i really need coilovers soon. Really was looking into hardcore JDM names (i wanted to keep her 100% Japanese brand name parts...since she is already... 100% japanese bred car)... but gave up since its really hard to find...or probably even get one. So i am looking for suggestions for set ups. Definetly a street driven... but i wouldnt mind having an aggressive set up since im used to "drift" suspension on my 240sx. It will see track some times... but not always. So wat set up am i looking at? What kind of coilovers...and wat kind of shocks/struts?
  5. Ok... being a good Hybrid Z member... i searched... and searched.. and even PMED some people about info... but i still havent found a convicing answer. So here is the question. Coilover Kits: Ground Controls...modern-motorsports... MSA.... arizona Z car... they all have the coilover perches... with great spring rate choices... and set ups... but my main question is... what are my shock and strut options? {Beta Motorsport's Kit is nice.. full set up.. with goodies... good with the high price though} It seems that we have a lot of coilover kits... but how about shocks and struts. This is wat i know of... Tokico illumina... and their "high performance" one (non adjustable?) then there is KYB... which KYB? And Koni's... this is wat i know alot of people with GC in general use.. (meaning other cars than Zs... especially the Koni YelloW). Can Z's Use YellowS? So i guess the question to the public is... wat shocks and struts are out there for these coilover kits out there? The more adjustable... the merrier... 5 way are the illuminas... is that the most adjustable shock/strut out there for the Zs? Please enlighten me with these information...
  6. Kti would be cool. How much are we looking to spend?
  7. Well there you have it folks.. it has been decided. 8 inch can fit stock set up... need a 0 offset & 4.5" of backspacing. Thanks.. you enlightened me too...
  8. Thanks for the posts by the way guys! But wow... you guys have done some crazy mods to make some crazy wheels fit. Trecani: I agree... so i guess that answers this post... lol... but lets get numbers. auxilary: I totally agree... i think i did decided today that i am going with 16s... which is a good size i believe. I can still fit some good brakes under there right? tonycharger72 & Mikelly: Thanks for the inputs... i guess opinions are out there... 7s or 8.5s with stock set up. I think it would be nice to know how wide a Z lover can go with their stock set up. Hope an answer is settled soon JAMIE T: WOW! CRAZY SET UP! I guess ive been out of the loop lately... when i was first part of this forum.. i could count rbs in Zs with one hand... how many are out there in the States now? WOW! Thanks again for all the posts... all feedbacks are appreciated. So 16s are the answer of size... but now lets go with width. Help me out here guys... 16x9.5 in fron 16x10s in rear... good choice? Purpose of the car... daily driven... nice to look at... can kick *** here and there type of car. I highly doubt it will ever see track.. since she is more show... but she will be putting down HP... range of 400 is goal. SO question is. How wide with 16s?
  9. WOW! 11s in the back?! so.. so far... with coilovers and ZG flares... 11s seems to be the winner. Any problems with that set up for you? BTW... the hulk... looks mean!
  10. So your running 11s based on your fenders? I was thinking of buying the ZG flares for MSA. How wide can i go with those flares?
  11. Ok guys... im in need of help. I've searched the forums... and didnt come up with a solid answer. So lets get everyone enlightened about wheels... and tires. With a stock set up... i've heard that 17x7 is the biggest and widest you can go with a wheel. True? or False? With coilovers alone... what is the widest and biggest wheel you can fit? With Coilovers and flares... what is the widest and biggest wheel you can fit? How wide and big can you go with your Z? And what did you have to do to get that wide? I am pretty much interested in the 2nd question... coilovers and flare set up. I am shopping for wheels..and would like to know up to what diameter Zs can handle and up to how wide (not that i am going wide and big.. but i would like to have the knowledge) are 16s better? or are 15s better? Im in such a dilema... need help!
  12. What is the biggest yet safest turbo you can put on the SR20det? Lets divide it into two categories... One... for stock apps (which i know can only hold 450) then Two... for modifying apps. I'm pretty much looking at t3/t4 and T4 Turbos.... am i out of my mind?
  13. sorry...but i would have to agree with Johnc.... CF hoods are the way to go for performance... power to weight ratio?.... best thing in the world to me...
  14. 1bad180sx...i see that your project went well for the sr motor... my goal is to hit 400-450 (maybe not 450 since the ctock block can opnly handle so much) with stock internals...well..maybe not all...we'll see... but i know a turbo upgrade is at sight. I am looking at the gt25R...handles 450 hp... but we'll see what the motor's potential will be. But i wanted to talk to you about TB. Rumor has it that not a lot of companies (if any) sell a TB for the sr20... where were you planning to get yours from? I've never seen it done... but a lot of people talk about the TB of the Rb25 as a good fit? Any feed backs on that?
  15. i see. That sure is a lot of $$$. Ill keep that in mind
  16. this might help you with your question. I got this off the internet in one site... they really didnt specify if this is a usdm sr20de or the jdm sr20de (if there is even a difference btw that) THey said that the sr20det has.... The DET has oil squirter piston coolers The DET has a bigger oil pump. The DET has a different front pulley. The DET has lower compression pistons (8.3:1 vs 9.5:1). The DET has bigger injectors. The DET has direct ignition. The DET has a variable intake cam, runs retarded at idle, advanced mid range and retarded top end. The DET has mechanical shim in bucket type lifters with a slightly bigger in duration exhaust cam. And with my own knowledge... i think.... the trans for the USDM would have to be different... do to the fact that it is transversely mounted. Even though the silvias in Japan had the option of gettting the sr20de instead of the ever so wonderful det.... but that doesnt really help.... oh well.. i tried
  17. Datsun 240/260/280Z carbon fiber/Nomex core race hood - $648.00 Datsun 240/260/280Z polyester fiberglass race hood (includes inner mounting frame) - $360.00 Datsun 240/260/280Z polyester fiberglass/Nomex core race hood (no inner frame) - inquire Carbon fiber inner mounting frame for the carbon fiber race hood - $194.00 Carbon fiber "look" for the fiberglass race hood - $115.00 Clear Gelcoat finish for carbon fiber hood - $108.00 Those are the prices...i am rather confused. So many prices just for a carbon fiber hood. What do you mean by Carbon fiber "look"? Well... this is basically teh question.... If i was to buy a carbon fiber hood... do i just pay the 648? (what are teh other "carbon fiber related prices?) ALso... the hood pins interested me. Where do you mount the hood pins... especially at the top part. Dropping the sr20 in my car might have to force me to remove my hood bracket now (maybe not... but it might help) Btw... did you remove the bracket on that 260z when you did his swap? Well... that carbon fiber sure does look mmm mmm good. Pricey but worth it. And those hood pins are nice touch too.... let me know
  18. hey john... when you were talking about the weight difference btw the sr in the 260 and your l6 in your 240z... you were talking about the 2 seater right? Do you have any guesses with a 2+2? I know i should gut out the interior.... carbon fiber hood and trunk? From Who?
  19. well thank you for saving me the trouble.... would i still be able to run TEIN or Tanabe even if i do some fabrication work?
  20. Sorry mr moderator... knew at this forum thing... and was to jumpy... but thanks. I was familiar with the Koni and the tokico... i was aiming more for the TEIN and Tanaba set ups... but i guess i will go search that my self Thanks again
  21. Was that suspension kit you bought from Ground control a direct bolt on or did you have to do some fabrication?
  22. That was the same turbo i was planning to use... it is still a battle between the t3/to43 or the 25r.... i understand the mid-range power of the sr20.... the faster spool up of the 25r.... the lag of the t3/t04e... but its the power potential of the turbo i am after... i think in the end i will end up going with the 25r...its 80% sure right now. What type of manifold are you planning to upgrade to? (or are you planning to keep your stock one>?) Are you also going to do a top mount or keep it bottom mounted?
  23. 10 inch coilovers huh... may i ask a brand name?
  24. Thanks guys for the replies. Yeah... sr240z is one lucky guy. Any plans of upgrading the turbo there mr sr240z? What is your main application for the car? Drifting? Racing? Track?.... that set up looks pretty mean for me.
