  1. Think there is enough space underneath and in front of the rear IRS to directly attach a Transwarp 11 ?

    Thinking http://www.evparts.com/prod-MT2144.htm

    Supposedly 135ft lb torque at 72 volts/453amp?

I have yet to see info on how well it would preform without the

    gearing from a transmission.

Still nice to see a working setup to see what is needed to get same or better

    then stock engine performance.

Personally I would ditch the heavy generator setup and toss in another

parallel battery bank in the previous gastank-sparetire box area.

I have also been keeping an eye out for an old truck to do conversion on,

as I have seen battery boxes built to fit hidden away under the bed.

  2. 6'3" here, I end up putting the seats way back in every vehicle.

Also give yourself an extra inch or 3 for a helmet. (padding on roll cage)

Debating what to do in my 69 roadster, the heater/defroster duct

on the console center is already missing and I still need more leg space there.

first gear is under my knee! and second under my thigh..

Need smaller steering wheel to get in and out easier.

    My clown car :)

    Oddly appropriate too.

    Gronk!

  3. had mine break on me.

luckily I was with walking distance of home, not that I wanted to walk...

so I dug out a screw driver from handy keyfob tools, set the idle to about

3-4k rpm, clambered in and idled home.

Was only about a mile but part was up a steep hill and had to do some clutch

    slippy.

  4. looking in the engine compartment of my roadster I see a zillion brake, oil and

    other lines back there.

I am working my way thru cleaning, sanding, painting the engine bay

and what parts of the frame I can get to.

Going to have to pull all the lines out.

Other then some how zinc plating the lines, anyone seen some sort of die cast

    red/blue/whatever color setup?

Not shure about having nappy looking 37 year old lines in a nice new painted

bay. Overspraying the lines the same color seems sorta of a cop-out.

good read through on rebuilding/upgrading a roadster.

I have a 69' 1600 roadster all original. currently I have the cylinder head in

a shop hoping they can weld a water jacket hole.

If not I will consider replacing the stock motor with a more modern

    nissan ka24 or SR20 from a 240sx.

My intent is to have a small fun fuel efficent car, not something with silly

amounts of power.(have other vehicles for that)

If you have a hodrod shop nearbye and they have one of those foam test

blocks, that might be your best but for fitting.

  6. Found out why my roadster was doing mostly duty as a steam shooter.

hole worked its way from cooling into exhaust outlet.

Water gets pored into top of thermestat housing and it imeditaly ran out the exhuast port and dribbled out the rustgenerated holes in the bottom of the manifold - or shot out the back of the car in the form of steam... fun.

Already took head to one shop and they did not want to try welding it back up.

Should I search around for another shop, try to find another r engine 1600 head?

Dont have the funds for an SR20 setup yet - unless somone wants to trade for

my 81 v8 turbo z and spare engine.

  7. working on my new 69 roadster1600 project.

been having trouble with the stock su type carbs. Thinking of fabricating in

some sort of fuel injection system.

Any reccamendationa for 1.6 liter nissan engine with simple fuel injection

system I can port over? hoping to make my own airbox, attach a throttle

body to it and mount it to the stock intake. and in a couple

fule injectors on top and figure out a good place to mount an oxgyen sensor on the exhuast.

I could do a mega squirt but if I could just grab a complete setup from another car with the same size engine, was going to try that first.

Dont really care about power. Gasmilege would be nice.

Are the datsun 510 L16s compatible?

Failing that anyone got a complete KA24 motor/trans with all the goodies

    for a retro fit?

For amusment I fitted the old webers from my z in. actually fit! hope the engine does not rock to much though.

  8. seem to remember bmw v12 motors are completly computer controlled -

throttle by wire. the lil actuator motors tend to have problems aftwer awhile.

a custom intake-throttleboddies and megasquirt setup would be reccamended.

Parts would be expensive, tintake and exhuast manifold gasgkets prone to leaking I also seem to recall.

The size is about 5.0 to 5.6 liter. 2 valves per cylinder.

Easily get more bang fer buck with an chevy ls1 build.

The 12 cylinders are very smooth running however.

oil pump n pickup need to be relocated and or new frame connector made.

was looking at buying a bmw 850 for a commute cruiser till I found out they

are made for midgets only. (nobody over 5'7" :( I am 6'4")

prolly a good thing since they take a few grand a year to maintain.

  9. http://www.butanol.com/

been wondering about ethanol and butanol.

Shows energy BTUs for these two but not for a gallon of regular gas.

For as much as I can see there is less power potental from these fuels:

"Higher energy content (110,000 Btu’s per gallon for butanol vs. 84,000 Btu per gallon for ethanol). Gasoline contains about 115,000 Btu’s per gallon."

Hence you are going to need to use more fuel to get the same power.

Also will need to do a complete carb jet/ecu fuel map depending on the fuel

used. At which point will your compression ratio still be efficient?

Worried about the long term effects of differnt fuels and additives on seals/owrings/etc.

Course take anything this website says with salt, as they are just trying to hype for funding. Or for all I know it could be an outright hoax.

Would love to have a barrel of this butanol mix for smogging regular cars if indeed it does burn that much cleaner.

Although I am quite happy to belive that the energy companies will still keep charging the same amount for ethanol as they do for oil based fuel - as they will get to sell you more of it. $$ win for them either way.

    rant>

Anyone with proper understanding of the fuels involved comment?

  10. There is alot of good anime, and then there is alot of child oriented rubbish that gets shoved out.

GTO, Trigun, Ghost in the Shell, Witch Hunter Robin, Blood+, the new Hellsing series(follows the manga/comic), FLCL is a fun bizzare lsd trip!,

I have Irresponsible Captain Tylor, good comedy.

Also liked a series called Last Exile and Tenjou Tenge.

    Lots of light hearted humor.

If you know where to look on the net you can get fansubs of the new stuff

done really well, years before you might seem them in stores.

Usually the stuff that makes it to the us with english dubbs are horrible.

Nothing like having a lil japanese chracter voiced by a woman with a hudge southern accent. Also the lines are completely changed to localize or dumb down the content.

    I wont mention Initial D

Avoid buying anime if you can, its more expensive then crack.

  11. came across this on the net:

    http://oak.cats.ohiou.edu/~weinfurt/gaswelder.html

build your own portable gas powered welder.

I would prolly want to add on more gear to give options

for 12v dc and an inverter circuit for 120 ac.

I remember my father had a great big red lincon gas powered

unit. it did not put out a good sine wave though, so

had to be carefull what you pluged into it.

Still I would love to have a portable unit for field work.

    to many projects...arg!
