  1. yes it will be the most expensive..so far estimates are $500 for undercarriage and floor pan rust repair. and somewhere between $4500 and $5000 for body and paint(custom).
  2. Actually the car shows in seaside oregon and long beach washington it will be trailered..within 20 miles the local ones I will drive to. Like i said this forum got me in contact with a member who has a neighbor who has a rolling chasis for$100..missing 1 tail light. If it is rusty I'm sure there are a ton of parts I can get off of it..I plan to strip it down and sell the stripped probably rusted shell to my buddy's recycling yard..if not rusty will do that with mine then. Oh I will be getting a set of rear tires for it on spare wheels and taking it to portland international raceway for the saturday night street drags just to see how it does when done..of course it will be trailered there.
  3. I love your reasoning..thank you..very good point..so how much would it be for the original zx metal presses shipped from japan?...i know..smart alec..but your point is very well taken!!!
  4. my buddys 350 had the same issues you are having..it was a bent #5 exhaust valve..but you already checked yours?
  5. even if I found a clean R200 for $75 i would still open it up and then replace gaskets and seals..thats the way I am..if it is out of the car..make it as close to perfect before it goes back in. My father taught me that growing up..why do things twice..make it right the first time. My harness is a complete mess under the dash..i bet i have 25-30 cut wires with twist connectors on them.. and thats not including the radio section. I am excited to go check out a chasis in oak harbor this january. Hopefully for a $100 chasis I can eliminate most of these costs..If the chasis is in better shape than mine then mine will be stripped and scrapped.
  6. I get a several thousand $ bonus every december..deal is wife/house gets 1/2 i get the rest..in tax season 50% of the return is mine..usually my share is a couple grand..so between december and march cash comes in..the rest of the year is the extremely hard manual labor..before i send the chasis to the fabricator for repairs i am going to hand strip the underside to reveal all hidden stuff..i can't wait to raise her up..crawl under and sand away!!! NOT! My job slows down around jan-march..so lots of days off to do this really fun stuff. Yes i need a new roof..that is this spring..i do it myself and save 75% with the help of friends..yes i helped them do their roofs.. One good deal is I have alot of connections thru friends..the fabricator is amazing..he does restorations on classics only..where huge chunks of those cars are rusted away..i have seen his work..he is amazing. I went to him mentioned my friends name as a referal to him..he told me that guy has spent tons of money at his shop and is giving me a huge discount. My goal is 5 yrs..if it takes 6-7-8 it will teach me patients i hope. Was talking about my plans for the look of the car with my wife and wanted to find an artist to do a rendering of my idea's..she asked about a computer program..will photoshop allow me to manipulate fenders or just colors?
  7. finally an answer!!! I do not have a fabrication shop to make ford mounts..so a CSB is the plan!!!! thank you
  8. In the case of the suspension..i am replacing all the bushings...and assuming most of the bolts will have to be replaced..helped a friend do a restoration on an old harley..we tore it down to the frame..90% of the bolts we cleaned up with wire grinder wheel..Things like the control arms and sway bars will be taken off and cleaned up(by me) and either powdercoated or sprayed..of course I am going to replace the wheel bearings and seals..calipers,rotors,brake lines..as for the differential yes it just includes taking it off replacing seals gaskets cleaning it up and painting it. buying a car a peice at a time is insane..if only ALL the peices were available for this car..that # would be higher:)
  9. wow..prices are alot higher than here...alot more to choose from in phoenix also..
  10. you guys are all correct..i bet i did miss several things..here are some specifics..rear end suspension and brakes also getting new seals and gaskets for r200 diff. $1734.35 interior...$1952.88.. My wife always says..i just can't settle for second best.. I am a perfectionist..if I do something it has got to be done right. I can't build this without redoing all the suspension..bearings..brakes.. I am a bit overwhelmed right now..but this project is going to be 1 step at a time..between tax returns and yearly bonus checks..should take about 5 yrs..then I will find a motor and tranny.. I bet the $30k # is alot closer than what I have figured...watching mecum auctions tonite..all i dream about is my car looking better than those...well o.k. as good..
  11. I just sat down for the last 2 hrs going thru catalogs and web sites getting prices for Interior/suspension/brakes/differential and all bearings and seals/rust repair and body work. Also includes fornt and rear body bumper kit and spoiler and misc like new dash wire harness door seals etc. this estimate does not include engine or tranny as I am not sure what to do yet. $10,246.01:evil: yes lots of mixed emotions This dollar amount will go up as I'm sure I missed lots of stuff!!!! this is just FYI jimminy christmas..come on lotto #'s ohh forgot..1981 2+2
  12. i got this car for free..didn't run..sat for over 6 months..brought it home on a trailer..new wallyworld battery and she fired up...runs crummy but hey.
  13. I also like the idea from a post above to find an engine put it in..and get it going then work on my dream engine in the shop..when done swap them out.
  14. drug my feet also..step son had 94 mustang gt wrecked in the rear..sat for over a year..3 weeks after i got this car..i asked him..nope sold it 2weeks ago.. I was looking at the cons of the chevy.. dist. in rear,heavier..I like the fords but my question is still unanswered. Will the sites that sell conversion kits for the chevy work on ford? No matter what i do the engine will be rebuilt by me and my buddy. Block will be sent in to be conditioned and bored if needed and also send the heads in to be rebuilt. Yes there are a ton of mustangs out there..within 20 miles of me are several towing companies that have auctions..craigs list..lower lower end car lots.
  15. from what i am reading all over this forum..the 2+2 is a sturdier although to some, undesirable car. I do not have the tools to fabricate or weld at my house right now..need $4k to wire up my shop..have a little power out there now.(110v). I am getting ideas from everywhere for this car..my initial 4-5 yr project just might take a decade. When I do this I really want to do this right. So basicly use the kits available online for engine and tranny mount for ford or chevy set up? Will get chasis repaired and then start looking for donor car..really think i am going to keep the FI system. thanks for the imput
  16. I have no engine yet..or donor car. He asked in the thread above about doing a ford 302 or the chevy.(I realize he lost out on the ford motor) I also have the same question..i really want the ford because I have always been a ford man..I guess my question is..will the conversion kits available online work for the ford motor also?(mounts, brackets, adapters) I do not have a machine shop like the guy in seattle who did the Z8. Second question..I am somewhat mechanicly inclined and have a few friends with the needed knowledge I lack except....doin V8 swaps in a Z car. Currently have a ZX FI. I was thining of going with N/A conversion.. Are the complications the same or worse if I was to find a donor car with ECU and harness to keep FI or switch out to N/A??????(which is a bigger headache) I know to replace most of the shot FI system in my car now would run around $1500 for all new stuff..or more. I have no problem working on N/A cars. FI uhhhh I guess I could learn. Am I looking at hundreds more or $1000's more for FI V8 conversion over N/A? I have read dozens of threads on here about both ford and chevy..is it all just a matter of taste?
  17. my body shop guy told me when I showed him this that the fiberglass and metal will seperate no matter what within a couple years..because of the different expansion and contraction rates of metal and fiberglass. We go from freezing overnight to 50deg in the afternoon. Alright somebody fill me in on the carparts supplier that was knocked in a post above..whats wrong with his stuff????yeah..showcars..is his stuff crap or what..i was thining of ordering some stuff from him..please let me know
  18. Where the front of the rear suspension mounts to the undercarriage is rusty and going to be rebuilt(in front of the axle) Was going to ask if that could have a spacer put in and was thinking of the strut tower also..thank you.
  19. found a crate ford motor site that you can pay up to $24k for a 440+hp motor(302)
  20. i just want to simply raise the rear of mine 2-3" retro jacked up look..easy or nightmare???(larger wider rear tires)
  21. 79-81 exits right side..non turbo..82-83 non and turbo exit left rear..81 turbo exits left rear
