my friends and wife call me unusual as well...hmmm maybe they are right???? i am going for something completely unique..some fender mods..wider in the rear..no fiberglass though..body guy says maybe a year or 2 in our climate..metal and fiberglass expand and contract with heat and cold at different rates and cracks are guaranteed to apear. I am leaning towards removing the rear seats and making a fiberglass platform for strereo amps and subwoofer and storage...incorporating the chrome rails that are in the coupe. I am so impressed with this site and the wealth of knowledge..i am fairly new to forums and have used the search before..but when i use the "search" i get 15 pages and 99.9% have nothing to do with what i was looking for. I guess i need to be more patient. I am not building this car for resale or to try and make money..this will be my "BABY"...obviously a very expensive baby:)

what if any extra bracing did you use for the 425hp motor??? strut tower braces i assume...anything else??? the guy redoing my chasi is going to reinforce the frame rails underneath.

yes lots of discouragement..and excitement then right back to discouragement..then excited all over again. only doff between coupe and 2+2 is the longer quarter panels and rear side windows..and interior panels..i beleive the doors are a tad longer also. as the above post says..nothing like the S30..i agree..but I gotsta do what i gotsta do with what i gotsta doit with..and as for efi systems..unless i find some guru and a complete efi v-8 car to pull everything from..uhhh carbed it will be

yes i have seen the jtr site..will a ford or chevy mount up to their adapters? or is it all meant for gm only???

o.k. did a search on the posts but found nothing..yes i am new here any help would be appreciated. I have searched the chevy and ford conversions..all i have seen are 240-280z's..no zx's. In all the threads i have read the chevy creates problems with the distributor below the hood latch and ford has its issues also. Doesn't matter to me as long as its a v8 that puts out at least 330hp. Anyone on here have any major input about converting a 280zx and in their opinion why a chevy or a ford??? I hope i don't create a firestorm..

I have a dream..and so far i have had several disapointments. But i am keeping the image of this car finished in my mind. My kids are almost all raised and my 12yr old daughter is fascinated with this project. she helped me strip the interior and was asking 10,000 questions about everything. I plan on making a very fast street rod that in the end will be very different from any 280zx i have seen. We have several VERY LARGE car shows in my region and i picture the car with the digital photo album laid out and people walking by and going "what the heck???" spent the last 25yrs doing everyting for everybody else..now it's my turn. If I knew a good artist I would have a rendering drawn up and framed in my shop. I have learned alot in the last few days on here and am excited to learn ALOT more.

I assume you have to go with the Z31 bearings also for the hub and all brake components?

I am going to do a V-8 conversion and want to switch to a 5 lug hub. I have searched the suspension threads but found nothing. 81 non turbo 2+2

i found one in boise idaho for $300 but has rust issues also. I work for a car hauling outfit and run the NW. If i find a car they will let me have a load to that area so i can buy it and haul it back for free. Got a pm from a guy in oak harbor who knows of some in his area so waiting to hear back from him. I have a dream for this car and I really do not want it turning out to be a nightmare..as long as I keep focused on the image in my brain of the car finished and sitting at a car show. As for the back seats I am tossing it around about leaving them out and having my aluminum fabricator make a shelf or box that will be small storage and hold all the elctronics for the sound system. Come on lotto #'s!!!!!!

my body guy told me this was no big deal..he does nothing but restorations and has seen much worse. he is charging me $500 for a complete rebuild underneath that includes reinforcing frame for V-8 install and reinforcing rear susp mounts stripping and sealing entire underside. Every one i have looked at in the pacific NW here has pretty much the same issues. Where could i find a complete shell?

i have a superb body restoration guy but he tells me to stay away from "aftermarket" fenders and panels. The whole underside frame rails are bent in and lots of rust thru on quarters and lower side rails. Even the front mounts on the rear suspension is colapsing. He is charging me $500 to redo the whole under body and reinforcing the whole thing including all the floor pans and going thicker guage steel over the old frame rails. I found an 83 ZXT in the local junk yard.Perfect interior and all the parts I needed. Told them be back the next month to buy the whole thing..went in last weds...it was gone..they had crushed it on that monday!!!! I got very upset. No other zx's in any of the junk yards in western washington. I wanted to do the 2+2 for the rareity of it...guess I better just keep looking. 3 strikes against me but I ain't out yet!!!

Hello..new to this forum..very glad I found it. I was given a 1981 2+2 in really sad shape. I am going to do a resto mod over the next several years. My question is that i have done tons of searches and have lots of sites for parts but the 2+2 model is almost impossible to get body parts for. Black dragon has a huge selection but it seems alot of the parts i need are not available for the 2+2..why?
