  1. Looking at Moby's install guide... Says the sensors i need are as follows:

coolant temperature sensor, intake air temperature sensor, oxygen sensor, fuel pump, injector wiring, TPS, MAP sensor, etc.

I know where my fuel pump, injector wiring, TPS, O2 sensor are. I think cooland is back on the spark plug side, right? as for the Air temp where is it or what part do i get/where should i put it. the map sensor is just a vaccuum line to the ms box, and i'm using the same TPS as you are, Moby, Pallnet sent me a 240sx throttle body and it came with its tps, however, it doesn't make a difference whether my tps is plugged in or not right now. When you say etc... lol what other sensors, if any, are there?

And could you please explain PWM to me?

sorry if i'm being a pita, don't mean to have answers fed to me, so if thats what it seems like just say **** off and tell me where else to find it? I've been going through the yahoo group but it only seems to stress me out because i don't know what i'm doing.

  2. I wanna do my conversion this winter, and I'm once again bringing up the age old question:

Should I do Tony's plate mod, or go with a different distributor? Also, when you say "it supports Low Impedence injectors so I don't need the silly flyback resistor board.", what is a silly flyback resistor board? is that just the relay board?

  3. I have an MS box sitting on my deskt (MS1, PCB 2.2 from diy, with relay board). I have a 2.8L stock L28 with 283,xxx miles on it, and an automatic transmission.

    Also, it's an 81.

It would be a good idea/project for me to rebuild an engine and get it up and running with a new engine and with a manual tranny before moving to MS.

Knowing some of the problems with MS concerning 1981 hardware, I'm wondering what all I should change in addition to rebuilding my internals, in order to better suit a swap to ms?

  4. at 3250 rpm (looks to be exactly that) my car starts buzzing inside the drivers compartment. from right around where the glove compartment is. i get the fuel light coming on, the door light coming on, and the brake light coming on. no performance drop from what i can tell, just an irritating noise. it also turns my signals off. after i turn off and restart the car, the noise goes away until 3250, but my turning signals are still off. they turn on sporatically, so long as i haven't taken her above 3250. hazards still work, but turning signals are a no go. my friend thinks it could be my alternator regulator or something like that, like it's over powering my electronics at a certain rpm. any idears?

  5. lol yeah... and which of the boxes do you have? i need to get this ordered in a hurry if i want time to play with it this summer before i ship out to college...

    Relay board? stimulator?

I work 50 hours a week and have cheer practice for about 10. i work 40 miles north of where i live, and cheer 40 miles south of where i live. i don't have much time to do research except at night, and at this point i am so f'd up tired that i cna't think straight. exactly what hardware do i need to make an 81 efi system work with fuel and ignition management?

  6. I had read (or thought i had, it was kinda late... lol) in a post by you that you had to screw with the bracket in order to advance, so that's what i meant by modify the cas.

So, if i just want to run MS, can i do so with my setup right now? everything is stock, except i'm running 311 cc injectors, and a 60mm tb. would my ecu operate right if i took the fuel portion of it's job away from it? exactly what do i need to modify in my car to just run MS, and use my stock ignition setup?

also, which parts do i need when i buy the ms setup?

  7. I powdercoat, not a pro, you understand, but my friend and i have powdercoated many engine parts for our cars and our friends cars. It looks great, and if i were you i'd do the valve cover, 'cause it would look really nice, but to do the block would just be stupid. $600-800 is a lot of money, and you wouldn't REALLY get that much out of pcing the block. to each his own, but as someone who powdercoats, i just wouldn't do it. just get it painted.

however, if you do get it powdercoated, or painted, have all the work done first. if you spend $800 having it powdercoated and some new guy at your shop touches your car and scratches it, you won't be a happy camper.

  8. i'm looking for a set of injectors that will (hopefully) run faster rates than stock 280zx turbo injectors. I would, however, settle for anything at this point because I recently discovered I'm using 3 different types of injectors. the afm is bumped way up to keep from noticing the difference in flow, and that is causing corrosion of my plugs. HELP! What model injectors will fit into my mani without modification? I was thinking 300 zxzxt injectors, maxima, what others?

  9. I'm running about 7.5 psi now, instead of the 4 I was prior to the boost controller. Thanks guys.

At about 3300 rpm, my injectors start wavering, you can feel the acceleration slow then speed up a couple times, but after that it's like a friggin rocket, and then at about 5k it dropps off.

Also, a couple times the other night when I was driving, a plume of smoke popped out of my exhaust while I was gunning it. Any explanation? I think I'm just running way too lean and I backfired. I could feel the backfire, but as for hearing it, my stereo was on.

  10. i was accelerating at the time it started smoking... it seemed kinda sudden, though i didn't notice a power drop or anything. still possible it's the hose? i'll check though, thanks. any other replies would still be greatly appreciated.

  11. Today on an exit from the freeway i looked back and noticed a plume of smokish stuff coming from what looked to be my exhaust. after pulling over, my hood vent started smoking, same color. scared out of my wits, i popped the hood, turned the car off, and proceeded to look for the source of the problem.

I heard a gurgling sound coming from either my turbo or something near it, and antifreeze was dripping from my car to the ground below. smelled sweet, looked like antifreeze, etc.

my first thought was that i had a bad lower radiator hose and that it might have cracked or popped or come out or something. then i remembered that my turbo is from a 300zx, and is watercooled, and about crapped myself. i drove it to school, careful to stay below 3k, coasting when i could, and watching the temp monitors for dear life.

What are the chances that it's the turbo as opposed to just the return hose for the radiator? my car is parked now and i can't move it without adding to the coolant, cause i'm afraid to.

if it is the turbo, what will it take to fix it, a new hose coming out of the turbo, or what?

I'll take it to a shop asap, but until then, is it safe to drive if i refill the coolant and keep it out of boost range?

    TIA

  12. I'm at suspension.com, (http://www.suspension.com/nissancars.htm) and looking to get new bushings for my 'new' 81 zxturbo. I was just going to order a set of each across the board for the 79-83 zx, when I noticed that it says to measure the diameter of the sway bar before ordering. Being the lazy teenager I am (and the fact that it's 4:00 and I'm still not out of my bath robe) I thought I would post here and ask about it instead. It's the stock sway bar, whats its diameter?
