  1. You know, I don't really have a problem with the road noise in an S30, but if I end up getting another one I will have to do SOMETHING about the exhaust smell. It comes through the hatch doesn't it? Also, I don't think I'd ever do a V8 swap into a Z-car. There's something about keeping the car Nissan that I really like.
  2. @Clocker Thank you for the insight. You said basically what I expected; I just wanted some confirmation! @NewZed No, I know that the potential in an l24 is limited. I think it's a safe bet that any car I buy would benefit from a fresh rebuild...and I've never done it before so it would be an interesting experience. Too long; didn't read. It's a summary. I figure I can start modding somewhere else and end with a swap (l28et probably) in a few years. @T-Bone028 I'm glad to hear you are happy with your Z. Is it stock? @psdenno I definitely think you are right about needing to drive one. My hope is that it will have the same feel as driving my 280 but with more response!
  3. Don't get me wrong I love the s30's. I didn't sell my 280z because it didn't have enough options. It had to go because a mechanic I brought it to messed something up and we couldn't figure it out. The next guy that owned it swapped the motor and it didn't fix it even (I'm pretty sure the problem is electronic). Also, I did want something with a little more get up and go. That thing had absolutely no pep. I think I need to clarify that my TL;DR is mostly directed at how peppy the 240 is in comparison to an NA Z32. I don't care about power windows or anything like that!
  4. I have a 96 300zx NA 5-speed that is basically the perfect car. It's a beautiful car and is an absolute joy to drive. PlentY of power for a daily, and a head turner to boot! Plus, it's paid for. My first car was a 78 280z 2+2 3-speed auto. My dad and I restored the interior/exterior, and I absolutely LOVED that car. Unfortunately it wasn't much of a performer, and I sold it for something with more power. Now here is what I want to know: Is a 240z going to drive like a turd? It's hard to compare it to my 280 because that car was the heavier 2+2 and a god-forsaken 3-speed automatic. You also have to consider that I did next to no work on the motor of that car, and I intend to rebuild the motor in a 240 if I get one. TL;DR - Will I be disappointed going from a 300zx NA to a 240z?
  5. I'm looking for exactly what the title says! T-tops or slick top, It doesn't really matter. Whatever it is it needs to be sub-100,000 miles and unmolested. I'm situated in Missouri, but will travel a ways to get a nice car. Thanks all, have a great day
  6. We pulled the pan and, while I don't have to experience to know, my dad couldn't find a problem. The wrist pin idea is interesting because I think it started doing it around the time it started to heat up...we'll see. thanks alot
  7. As far as we can tell there are no certain conditions under which it decides to make noise. I will have to try to use a screwdriver, we could feel it in the oil pan when we put our hands on it, but when we took the oil pan off we couldn't see anything that would make us think that that was where it was coming from. I have no idea when the last time the valves were adjusted was. It hasn't been done since I owned it so that would make it pre 1997(it sat from then until 2010).
  8. So, for the last few months my car has been knocking every so often. We cannot figure out what it is. It doesn't do it all time. My dad brought the car to a mechanic, but it wouldn't make the noise for them. I have a 1978 280z. Anybody else encountered an issue like this? Thanks!
  9. It's definitely solid. next to rust free(just a spot of surface rust that i think i can fix myself, very very small), but it is a 2+2 automatic so it might be harder to sell...thanks for the info guys. I really appreciate it
  10. Really? Oops! lol I guess that is my mistake. We may not be swapping now because I think we finally figured out our problem(after having it all summer). I'm wondering, though, if it would be appropriate to post asking how much I could sell my car for if I'm not a donating member? I know I can't post to sell and there is a pretty close relation between the two.
  11. O, I wasn't saying that because I thought the # matching would mean anything. I only asked because I thought maybe the difference between an l28 and l28e might matter to people. Thanks for the reply
  12. I'm not looking for how difficult it would be because as far as I know it would basically be like putting in another L28, but I am wondering if it would hurt the price of the car compared to the car with the original 186,000 mile engine that (sometimes) makes an ugly engine noise. I THINK this was the right part of the forum to post this in. If I'm wrong I will gladly move my question somewhere else. Thanks! Nick
  13. I didn't read through this whole thing but Steve Carell mentions being hit by a Datsun in Dinner for Schmucks.
  14. probably so...i was just wondering how it looked.
  15. One more louver question...has anyone seen side window louvers for the 2+2?
