  1. Thanks, at first I had the strap off but in the box there was a note to not remove the strap. I thought this was pretty strange. Thanks for pointing out the writeup on the alternate solution. I have already spent the money and hammered on my floor for the JTR solution so I will give it a try but now I know there is an alternate if I have issues.
  2. I am installing a SBC 350 from a 91 blazer and I mated it to a T5 from a mid 80's camaro. The issue I have is that the clutch slave cynlinder has a plasic strap over it. I guess this is normal it says do not remove. But with that on it does not touch the clutch fork or at least won't have any throw to engage the clutch. I have checked the year ranges for my parts and I dont' see how I can have something mixed up. Any ideas? Seems I need a longe shaft in the slave or a more bent clutch fork, or a clutch that is thicker, or a bearing that is taller.
  3. I know that my pully is not thick enough to cut into without cutting through.
  4. thanks, didn't even know something like this existed. 90.00 is a bit expensive for a pully but not to bad for a solution I guess. Thanks for the links.
  5. I have a 91 350 so it came with the serpentine belt setup. I didn't think it would clear the hood so I did away with the brackets that where on the left and right heads. Plus I wasn't going to have AC or PS so I didn't really need much. The plan is to mount the alternator on the pass side and run the belt from the crank to the water pump and alternator. No idler. I swapped out the water pump with an older one so I would have the port for the heater core and it would turn the correct rotation. The question. Will the serpentine belt fail prematurely if I run the ribbed side on the flat water pump pully?
  6. thanks for the info. I will be out of town for about a week and a half. When I get back home I will look at it again. When I was looking a the wiring the two twisted wires from the VSS plug seemed to go into another plug inches from the ECM. But when I was looking at the wiring diagram for the that year vehicle it doesn't look that way. As for the Memcal, as shown in the chart there is now 5.7 manual chip. Will I need to get a custom job done? Been doing a little searching on this tons of information to wade through.
  7. I have both the JTR books and didn't notice anything in them in regards to using the auto ecm with a manual gear box. The modelule that I am missing connects via a square white 4 post plug. it takes input from things like the VSS, AC and other load items. I believe it controls your downshifts since teh mechanical kickdown is no longer used.
  8. I have a 91 chevy TBI engine that I have put into my Z. Went through the wiring yesterdy and noticed that I am missing a computer module for the auto transmission that came with the engine. I am putting in a T5 so the question is can I run the VSS sensor straight into the ECM or will I need to get a ECM made for a manual trans? Current wiring has the VSS going into the trans module and then out to the ECM VSS wire.
  9. The JTR book tells you to cut the shaft and drill and rethread the fork to match the new shaft. Any reason why you can't just swap the shafts from my old datsun unit to the new tilton unit? I did it but don't have the car fully together to know if I am going to run into some kind of problem.
  10. Swapping in my TBI engine into my Z I found I had a lot of wires that I had no idea what to do with. The JTR book helps a bit but has only general references. I found a website that will email you the wiring diagrams of whatever you need, www.ahdol.com. Only costs about 12.00 and you get a PDF document of the entire donor cars wiring in less then 24 hours.
  11. This is perfect, thanks for the information.
  12. I have a 76 and am starting my 350 conversion. I want to replace the 4 fuseable links that are on the passenger side fender. They are looking bad and one of the holders is broken. However I have not found where the amps are listed. I would like to replace this with a fusebox or curcuit breaker setup. Any idea how I tell what the ratings are and anybody know of a good unit to replace these with. I saw some nice boxes at a local marine shop.
  13. According to the JTR TBI and TPI book the 280z external pump should supply enough volume and pressure to supply a TBI 350.
  14. Thanks for the feedback. I think it would be a great idea to have a list of headers with known issues with each. As far as the fuel pump you talk about a carb. I am staying with injection, datsun multi port to GM TBI. I did do some searches and found read that the gm only requires 9 to 13lbs. didn't know if datsun was within this range.
