  1. From this picture it looks like there are no splines and I'll be fine, can anyone confirm. Thanks. http://300zx.tombeauchamp.com/graphics/z_pics/05_09_05_new_front_suspension/New%20Front%20Suspension%20006.jpg *Does anyone have any extra 240z stub axles for sale? I know they're weaker but I need them*
  2. I'm preparing to do a 5 lug conversion on my z, however there seems to be 1 big question which I cannot seem to find the answer to. I have a 71 240z, I know the rear is the 25 spline stub axle, of course different than the 27 spline stub found in the later cars. My question is what about the front (is that different too), are there even splines? If I get a z31 front hub assembly will it just bolt up without having to modify anything on my car? (minus the spacer and brakes) Suddenly I feel like an idiot for asking but I haven't seen the front hubs of my car so I don't know. Thanks.
  3. What's the best lube to use? *edit: It says hi temp grease, such as molly lube?
  4. Sorry to bring my old thread back from the dead...but I'm not so sure that is it. My Speedo cable was replaced in 02, Can it go bad that fast? I'd rather not spend $70 on a part I don't need. Any other thoughts? I'll complicate things some more here and mention I changed my rear from a 3.36 to a 4.11....What's the easiest way to get my speedo to read correct?
  5. Same with me. I have some fenders flairs I need to put on. Anyone have any pics on a z?
  6. Is there any downside to just increasing my rocker arm ratio from 1.5 to 1.6 other than possible valve spring bind? I suppose that's another option. Anyone recomend a good 1.6 ratio rocker arm?
  7. Yea, I calculated those overlaps at .05, I'll edit the orig. post here in a min. A link to the systemax II package, with some details http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=HLY%2D300%2D503%2D1&autoview=sku Valve Angle: 20º Intake Runner Volume: 184cc Exhaust Runner Volume: 68cc Combustion Chamber Volume: 68cc Intake Valve Diameter: 2.02" Exhaust Valve Diameter: 1.60" CFM flow @.5" lift 223/173 Deck thickness: .5" It looks like my Compression is 9.55:1 4.03" Bore, 3.38" Stroke, .039" compressed head gasket, and 68cc cylinder head vol. 8. I've having a bit of a problem figuring out what to do about cam choices. I'm looking for a bit more power, but not increase where the power lies. I would like to keep my rev's to ~6500. I would also like a somewhat lopier idle. Ok my current setup includes Chevy 350 bored to 355 Holly systemax II package Holly 750 carb ~10:1 compression I forget what type of headers etc... With the systemax II came this cam: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=LUN%2D07104LUN&autoview=sku 07104LUN Duration 235/240 @ .05" Lift .49/.49 I'm assuming from the spec sheet that center line of lobe is the LSA which is 108* however the website says it should be 112* Assuming I'm correct I should have 21.5* of overlap. Now, I've found some cams below with more lift, and more overlap, but will I see that much of a power increase from ~.01"to .03" more lift? Cam 1 http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=CCA%2D12%2D224%2D4&autoview=sku 248/248 @ .05" Lift .504/.525 LSA 110 Overlap 28* Cam 2 http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=LUN%2D00012&autoview=sku 246/246 @ .05" Lift .515/.515 LSA 108 Overlap 30* Cam 3 http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=CCA%2D12%2D250%2D3&autoview=sku 240/246 @ .05" Lift .507/.510 LSA 110 Overlap 23* Cam 4 http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=LUN%2D07102&autoview=sku 235/235 @ .05" Lift .507/.507 LSA 108 Overlap 19* Or should I just stick with what I have? Thanks for the help.
  9. I am/was running stock halfshafts. I dyno'd with about 300/300 to the wheels. No problem for the time I was running those (about 2k). I'm swithing over to CV's currently because I now have a 4.11 LSD rear and figured I'de step up. My car is street driven right now.
  10. nope, not hijacking, This is a place for everyone to learn. When I helped a friend rebuild his axles for a Acura integra the only thing we really needed were the boot clamp tool (tightned the clamp on the boot) It wasnt too hard. I think these nissan/datsun may be different. Thanks for the help everyone. My set of tripods are in the mail. Hope all goes smooth
  11. Ok, I think I know what I need. Is it worth the extra ~$400 for upgrading to 280z stub axles? I know a good amount of people stick with 240z and get the adapter. Thanks for the help?
  12. I'm sorry. I've never heard of any axle refered to as a tripod...which one might that be?
  13. Why the 280z non turbo? There's 280z turbo axles on e-bay now, nuts. I have a flange on the diff now I'm going to be using. Supposidly it's an r200 in my car now... As far as the stub axles I was planning on doing the Modern Motorsports conversion http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=5
  14. Ok, I have an r200 CLSD from an 89 300zx turbo. I'm going to be putting it into my 240z. I know I need to change the stub axles, and pinion. Now my question is Are the 300zx axles and the 280z axles the same? Will both work for what I need? Thanks
  15. I'de like a picture of the wheels on a Z. I don't want to go into the trouble of getting it to work then hating how it looks.
  16. do you have any pictures Bleach? I really want to see how they look and I'm horrible at photoshop.
  17. Sounds like it might be a lot of troubles. Is that bolt pattern in STD 5x4.5
  18. I'm wondering if anyone has Rx7 93' and up wheels on their datsun, or if it's possible. If so do you have pictures. I know they're 8" wide so I'm not sure how they would fit. It looks like Modern Modersports sells hubs that convert to 5x4.5 I can't seem to find anything showing what an Rx7 uses. Thanks.
  19. Well it came the other day but it was raining out and I didn't get a day off till today. It took about an hour or 2 to install. It fits great. I'm sure I'll feel a lot safer too.
  20. I think it will fit just fine so I ordered a bar. I can post pictures when it comes/get it installed. Thanks for the help.
  21. So I just drove my new Z home from atlanta....the spedometer is doing something very odd. When I'm moving it will jump up and down about 20 miles per hour. It makes a clicking sound while doing this. It almost sounded like my turn signal. At the top of it's peak it registered roughly 20mph lower than I was going. This gap seemed to varry though. I have a t-5 tranny, and the stock 71 speedo. I believe the previous owner ordered the correct gear for the cable, I'll have to check the part numbers when I get home. What else could it be? Cable sticking? It's like I'm missing teeth on the gear. Thanks
  22. I added one to my cart for MSA and it was about 85 to ship the whole cart. not too bad. Is there any difference between MSA and autopower. They seem similar.
  23. ok, so the Autopower bolts in like the MSW. It appears by the pictures I should have no problems bolting either in. No one knows of a bar which bolts to the floor. What is the difference between the MSA SCCA and the Autopower race? Do they both have the diagonal bar (removable?)? I like the removable feature for the Autopower. Forgive me if this has been covered in a past thread I couldnt find it.
  24. I didn't know the MSA did not go to the floor untill now. I think I should have plunty of room if I go with that bar. Does the MSA SCCA go to the floor? What's the differences? By the picture of the Autopower it attaches to the floor. Is this true? Does anyone have a picture where it does. You've been a lot of help so far Thanks.
  25. Here are some pics of the seats and clearances.....my car looks real dirty right now wow. I need to get the rest of my interior dynamated and put back in. Thanks
