Rear brake setup idea

Recommended Posts

Don't forget the Disk offset from the hub to mounting bracket as well. It might be possible to redrill the Ford disk and use spacers if needed if you want to keep the stock stub axle and bolt pattern.

Yeah I am concerned with that, hopefully I could figure something out. Preferably, I would like to keep the 4 lug pattern but if I need to go 5 lug the toyota front rotors should work as well as 2wd toyota rotors. The explorer has the same bolt pattern so they should be compatible with each other.

I know you have this rolling with the Ford idea...... I was just thinking that the Hyundai Sonata uses a similar setup with 4 lug rotors in 114.5. ;)

Is the brake setup as easy to find? If they are easy to find at pick n pull that would be great and i would rather do that swap. I could find 4-5 explorers that still have their axles w/ brakes at pick n pull and that is why I am interested in the ford 8.8 stuff. I can get rotors machined extra holes for pretty cheap $40 extra for two rotors so I dont think that is too bad.

Finally I decided what I am going to do.

I am going to:

Use Rear Disc Brake Setup from a 1995-2001 Ford Explorer

***Drill and use spacers to properly align the explorer backing plate with the Rotor hat (parking brake) and hub.

I am going to have New explorer rotors Drilled with the Nissan Z lug patternor find the proper rotor with proper lug pattern which will have the proper hat size and rotor thickness...yeah right.

Ill still give it a try anyways.

I also recall similar setups in 1980's Toyota Celica Supra and Cressida - and early 1980's Sterling (made by Honda and Austin / Rover), had a "drum" parking brake in the rear disc brake rotor. These both had 4 x 4 1/2" lug circle. But when was the last time I saw any of those at the wrecking yard....hmmm....?

Since they are still available new, Might be a source for $25 rotors?

'82-'86 Supra rotor is 10 1/2" dia, 18mm thick, 42mm "hat", 60mm overall deep, 60mm dia. hub centering hole.
