TonyB
My Z has been dying on me while driving. Luckily I have a battery charger, but I can't do that forever. I got my alternator replaced awhile ago. It was working pretty well for a few months, but the battery started dying again. So, I had my alternator checked at AutoZone. They said the battery and alternator seemed fine, but they say the voltage regulator is the cause. So my question is, where exactly is the voltage regulator in a 1982 280zxt? How do I replace it? Its nearly all stock; L28ET. Thanks in advance.
ArizonaZ
The regulator is part of the alternator on the 280ZX's. Are you sure that the alternator is charging?
dexter72
Just as was stated above, the all zx alternators have internal voltage regulators. So the problem might be the alternator or a bad connection at the battery or alternator. Also make sure all the fuses and fuse links are good. If you drive at night are the headlights dim and the interior gauges dim?. Does your charge light light come on?. Does the gauge read over 12 volts when your driving?. TonyB
The battery lasts for quite awhile. Then the battery light will come on. Then the lights will dim slowly. Then the car just starts to stutter. So, I'm going to have to get a whole new alternator?
