15 x 9 in the rear?

Just looking around on ebay. Someone's selling some ROTA WHEEL SHAKOTAN 15 x 8 (+4 offset) front and 15 x 9 (-10 offset) rear. Is it even possible to get that with under a 75 260z without putting the fender flares on? Just wondering what's the widest you can go without flares.

The widest rim I have been able to mount without having to mod a bunch of stuff is 7-inches wide. Now, the tread width on 205/50/15-225/50/15 tire is about 9 inches. 225/50/15 on a 7-inch rim with 4.5" back spacing (measured from back lip of rim to hub mounting surface) is a perfect set up-you don't have to modify anything. At 8 inches, you have to start modifying things like rolling fender edge. At 4.75" back spacing, you have to go to coilovers to clear the spring seats. With coilovers, you can go to as much as 5-1/8 back spacing. Hope that helps. All these guys with super wide wheels are cutting out their fenders and adding flares. I have recently been thru this very issue, and I am certain of my measurements.

 

Unfortunately, some wheel makers talk in terms of back spacing, while others refer to offset. Offset is really hard to measure. Best to get somebody who has the wheels you want do a back spacing measurement. Even then, try to just order one and set up the purchase so that they will accept returns.

I've fitted 16x9,5 -10 with 225/45-16 street slicks under no flared fenders in the rear on my 280z. That's the lowest offset and widest you can go, look up willtheyfit.com for comparison with the 15x9. You need camber plates (running about -2 degrees in the rear), coilovers, stretched tires and rolled fenders.

 

So yes, the 15x9 -10 will fit in the rear.

I don't disagree with the post above. Any wheel and tire combo will fit if the car's ride height keeps the tire out of the fender-just don't hit any bumps. My advice only applies if you will have a car is lowered or it you want the tire to clear everything at full suspension compression. My advice also only applies if you have tires that are sized normally for your rim. You can probably go wider than I recommend on the rim if you stretch rubber bands onto the rim, but you will have no tire to protect your rim in the case of a pothole, low tire, flat or curb rub. If you are just trying to get a tuner/ratsun "look" for your car, ignore anything I tell you and follow your heart. I nailed a deep pothole that was in shadow last night - it would have had a stretched tire waiting on a tow truck. I just stopped to make sure everything was ok, then I kept on driving.

Yep, your advice is great if he doesn't want to modify or running minor stretch. My setup clears the fenders when hitting bumps and you can get a visacard between tire/rim and fender. The track width decreases when you're that low and you can use that advantage to fit wide low offset wheels. It's not slam low, but usable DD low.
