Guest Anonymous
I'm looking for some help. I want to shoehorn a 351 Windsor in my 78 280Z 2+2 with fuel injection (more acurate than carb, that's why), but I can't seem to find any 351 FI engines unless I order a crate. I'm definitely not going Chevy for this project, they break down too often. I want to go for speed in this project car also. Is the 351 Windsor a good choice engine-wise to mate up with a Richmond 6 speed and 3.11 gears? I'm looking for balls to the wall speed, not hop the line torque (don't want to risk frame damage). This car is already one hell of a roadrunner but I want it to go faster. Any suggestions on a wing for downforce and an angle to set it at for very high speeds? I just blew out a cylinder on the stock 2.8L running 155 mph down the interstate (middle of the night, don't worry) in fourth hitting about 8 grand or so (tach is shot) so I'm looking for a few suggestions when it comes to engine swaps, primarily Fords. If anyone can help, feel free.

BLKMGK
351W EFI motors are found in trucks like the Lightning, vans etc. but the Lightning is the only one that had the good intake so far as I know. It also had batchfire injection using a MAP sensor. You'd probbaly be best off buying a Lightning motor or building your own EFI motor which is what I did. The intakes are easy to find as are the fuel rails etc. Most everything is 5.0L related and easy to find except the intake. Late blocks are roller capable too using 5.0 components and cams. DO use th e5.0 computer and chip it as the MAF is better along wiht full sequential. I don't recall what the distributor comes from in that case but it has to be modified slightly to take the hardened oil pump shaft. Yeah, I've been down his path myself It was in a Mustang though.... Guest JAMIE T
Yeah, what he said. Use a Cobra upper to get hood clearance. Definately use the mustang parts for the swap(i.e. ECU, harness, MAF, etc...) Check out www.holcomania.com for parts. Dp351zcar
Welcome to the new frontier. I am trying to do a 351 swap also. I have not heard of anyone doing a 351 but there are some 302's out there. I will be making my own mounts and I will "try" to make my own headers from a kit. I am almost ready to start as I have most of the stuff now, I hope. I will post pics if I can as I get something done. Don [ July 26, 2001: Message edited by: Dp351zcar ]
Guest Anonymous
Thanks for the help, y'all. Don, looking forward to seeing the pictures of yours when you getting rolling on it. Right now I'm just going to rebuild the straight six as a limp around engine to get me about while I fix my truck (damn 2.0L ford engine). I'll probably start my project in February when I move from Tennessee to central Illinois and get garage space up there. I'll post pics of the 280Z when I get the damn thing running, that'll be about three weeks. Thanks again.
