  1. Those headers don't fit a 351(I mean it hits the steering shaft) when it's mounted like that but after a slight tweek it should work OK. Mine may be mounted a little lower which may cause more of a problem. Don
  2. You might try summit #SUM-G9063 The are shorties and I bent the right side a little and bolted them on the left side and it clears the steering shaft by just a little. The left side bolted on the right makes it clear the starter and might come out in front of the crossmember motor mount. It's worth a try. Don
  3. I kinda think it would ruin the cornering and would need one heck of a coilover kit. Don

What track were you on when you got kicked out? That car sounds great just don't scare yourself to "death".
  5. I test fitted a AOD in my 71, the way my engine fit is with the oil pan behind the cross member. With that placement the back of the engine is right at the firewall and the tranny fit but I cut off the little blocks on each side that hit the firewall and I had removed the Z's stock tranny mounts off the tunnel. I didn't mess with it much as I am going with a T5. Good luck Don
  6. Like most of the things I have done in my life I am doing this alone. The Z is my project and my closest friend thinks I should part the car out. He is into alfa's and has the money to do it. Home and kids take a lot of my time now so if I were to do it again I would have left the six in and just made it a nice car. Don
  7. From Indy. I have tickets I got when F1 came to Indy in 2000 and the seats are so good I just keep renewing them every year even when I know I am not going. A lady bought them off the first year I didn't go and still wants to buy them when I don't use them as they are tickets in the front row of the stands staring straight at turn one. We didn't plan to go this year so there wan't time to really plan it out the way we usually (she is a planner) so we used Expedia.com got the flight, hotel and rental car. Beware of getting a hotel on the internet this time was ok but other times it was not the same place by looking at the pics. The race kinda sucked as the turn one-two crashes happened right in front of me and I was tring to get it all on a new camera which means I didn't get to see clearly and I didn't get much of it recorded. Bummer. It was worth it being there just to be around the people. People from all around the world go there for that race and it's cool to people watch. I think the F1 theme is rich older guys with younger pretty ladys. Then there is the sound of the cars which can only be described as Music Hope Indy continues. Don
  8. Well I have to be at the airport at 4:15am, bummer. On the flip side I am going to watch the US formula one race and just about anything is worth that. Am I the ony F1 fan here? Who do you think will win, as I see it there could be a very good race this year between three diffrent drivers and teams. My seats are in the front row of the stands looking at turn one. It's going to be cool. Don
  9. My 02 civic gets 36-38 MPG. When gas was going up a year and a half ago I bailed out of a 9 month old 4dr toyota tacoma (19mpg) for the civic. When is cheap I regret the lost toyota but when the cost of gas is up I like my honda better. I drive about 400 miles a week between work and getting the kids where they need to go. I agree the price of gas sucks and the only way to make it better is to use less.
  10. Terry I have heard the Weiand Stealth is a very good manifold. I kind of want to get one instead of my Victor JR but it is low on my list at this time. I think it could cut the height down but I don't know the measurements, they can be found on the web. Don
  11. Terry I just measured where the manifold sits flat over the valley (lowest point) on my motors and the 351 is about an inch higher. I used the timming cover as a reference point as they are the same on both motors. My oil pans are both front sump and are the same depth. Ford makes several diffrent pans shapes for these engines but a 351 pan will only fit a 351 because of the increased size of the main bearings. Don
  12. Thats it Terry, nail me to the wall for a slip of the keys (or brain fade). The motors did not have any exhaust on them and the 302 had the stock steel damper, the 351 is a alum Romac unit. The 302 is all stock except for the intake Edelbrock sp2p and a mild comp cam. The flex plate on the 302 only would add a couple of pounds. The 351 has alum heads and a victor jr on it and I hope everything is put back in the engine. If you want to see the the engines as I weighed them PM me with your Email address and tell me if you want small or large pics. I do not have a chev here to weigh so we could use it to use as a comparison. Don
  13. I have a 500lb scale I borrowed from a friend to weigh my motors. I have a rebuilt 302 with a stock iron heads but alum intake and the scale said 430lbs with 25lbs in balance beam and rigging. It was just the complete engine no alt, no carb, no starter but it did have a flex plate. I weighed my 351 with the same rigging but my 351 has lighter pistons (J&E) lighter balancer and alum heads and manifold, no flywheel. The scale said 420. So without the rigging. 351=395lbs ? 302=405lbs The scale is dead on as it has to be as it is used to test loads for small hoists. I know that dosen't sound right but that is what I got. I have pictures of the tests. Don
  14. As said before be carefull when checking for the rust. That motor is mounted way forward and that is one thing to think about because if it isn't exactly where you want it it will take time and effort to move it. It also said it had a C4, would you want a three speed? It was a tight fit but I did a trial fit with AOD and with my engine 1/4" from the firewall so it could work that way. Be sure that everything is just what you want before you buy. Don
  15. I didn't realize Pacific was open yet. When are you going next as I would like to see a V8 Z run. I live so close as I can sometimes hear cars running there. Don
  16. I thought my brother inlaw was the king in talking about something he didn't know anything about and using big words too. This guy is above him in the BS department by just a little bit. About the time I met him, (twenty years ago or so) he said at the U of W he had a friend that had this antiradar material that when a small piece was put on the front of a car it cause the radar guns the cops use to malfuction, as in, almost blowing up. Good my siser inlaw isn't with him now. What she's with now is worse, a recreational drug user 12 years younger than her. Don If I'm not mistaken the thing he said was a cardinal gram meter is two buck/boost transformers.
  17. Do you have one? When I bought my roll bar from them in 01(?) I went back to get the kit for putting a cage in, they said that they don't build them for Z cars anymore. Thats roll bars and anything else I was bummed and haven't gone back there. I live about a half hour from their shop. I think the S&W kit is the same as the Morrison one. Don
  18. My fidanza flywheel is so light and looks so good but it is still sitting in the box. This weekend I plan (hope) to be bolting the engine and tranny together. I have my engine balanced and last weekend I completed the 2.95 alloy gear swap while rebuilding my T5. I have my tilton hydraulic T/O bearing and a Ram clutch, so maybe if you can wait till this summer I can tell you what it's like. Don
  19. This happens everytime I get out of my (cough cough) 02 civic and I think it has to do with my cloth seats when I get out of the car. I doubt your engine swap could be at fault but you never know what kind of abnormal things a chevy could do. My honda is stock and money saved there goes to my Z. Don
  20. I have heard those cars at indy a couple of times (watching the F1 races) and I can say they are very LOUD. The men there that are not covering their ears are not going to be able to hear very much in the future. F1 cars are cool and very very fast. Don
  21. Thanks To Mike C for the link the Taylor link to get the tilton stuff. I just ordered a tilton hydraulic slave setup for my T5 and I hope it is as good as I think it should be. Wish me luck that the wife dosn't find out how much it costs. Don
  22. Well even though my wife has spent 65K (30K in that last 3 years) of debt on credit cards in our 18 years together I will get my Z together and painted before I dorvice her. After that that I will be gone and if she wants 1/2 of my Z I will insit on 1/2 of her clothes and shoes witch I will burn (because they will not fit me) and that would be more that the z is worth. Don
  23. I was wondering if the non W/C had the same case as the W/C. If it does than you could put in the Gforce kit or the 2.95 Alloy kit in. Call Hanlon and they can tell you if it will fit. Is the chevy T5 diffrent in the length of the input shaft or is it just the spline count and the diameter diffrent? Could you just use a clutch disk for a ford to fit the shaft and use the ford T5. I don't know what the diffrences are between the two so this is why I am asking. Just ideas. Don
  24. Just wondering if you have any news on what your going to do? Kinda wondering if anybody has tested what a "2.95 alloy gear set" will handle. Don
  25. The web site for Hanlon motorsports is http://www.Hanlonmotorsports.com they are good people and the T5 rebuild video is great. Well worth it if you are going to do it your self. Don
