Poundz9oh9
Nothing yet to brag about bro .. will be updating the thread tomorrow though! Ok, so no new updates. When attempting to bleed the brakes, I'm running into a problem. It's either the MC or the Calipers, but I'll be troubleshooting it today to see what I need to do next. So, again, hoping to have it on the ground this weekend Edited May 2, 2012 by Poundz9oh9
Poundz9oh9
Well, I finally got to drive it for a little bit on Sunday and put about 10 miles on it. I'm still having fueling issue that I believe is internally in the tank. I have a theory that the pickup screen is mucked up with sealant, but we'll see. If it frustrates me enough I'll cut the tank in half and have a looksee .... or do the F-body tank swap .. I just REALLY don't want to hack out the spare tire well. It died like it ran out of gas, but when I called the wife to bring me the gas can, the car only took about 3.5-4 gallons, and then cranked and ran after a couple tries (re-priming the pump I'm assuming) and drove the rest of the way home (2 miles) just fine. The suspension is not adjusted, but will be getting that treatment soon. It felt great, nice and tight and handled awesome! Just doesn't have the stance I'm looking for. I got the interior put together and pressure washed the engine bay and undercarriage. I was tired of have everything I touch being coated with old grease and dirt Anyway, here are a couple pics of the first day out of the garage in two months almost. Yes, I should have took more but the wife was already mad at how long I spent on it that day, especially after she had to drop what she was doing and bring me the gas can for a car I already "Fixed" And yes, I need fenders .. lol Edited May 9, 2012 by Poundz9oh9
cockerstar
Looking good Marcus Have you made any adjustments to get the ride height/stance where you want it?
Poundz9oh9
Meh, I've adjusted it .. havn't moved it back out of the garage since .. hence the no new pictures. I'll definitely need to do camber plates though. I can get it down where it's "ok" for now, but when I ZG it, I'll need a little more adjustability. Right now, I'm being a little restricted by using the stock isolators, but it's good for now. I'm at a little bit of a financial standstill right now, so I'll just be piddling around with the little stuff for a little bit (just did HEI ignition conversion and replaced the pickup coil). Then I'll do the sway bars, camber plates and ZG's, but for right now, just regular maintenance that's not really picture worthy. Will be cleaning up the interior some more this weekend though, then I'll have something to show .
Poundz9oh9
Just piddling around this weekend like I said ... New Battery terminals, since the PO CHEWED the last ones. HEI/Coil update (also did the pickup coil in the dizzy at the same time) Pulled the door panels to work on the non functioning locks. And decided to re'glue some of the loose ends back down. And figured "while I'm at it," I'd clean the panels up a little; starting with painting the trim because it looked like chewed poo anyway. Taping off More pics to follow, still working on it over the next couple days.
Poundz9oh9
OK, so .. Here's what she looked like as of last night ... I came down with a bit of the "While I'm at it" syndrome ... Door panels are still out waiting to be finished off with some good locks. Went to the local pick and pull and grabbed some lock parts and will get to making SOMETHING work hopefully this week. It gave me a reason to hit the pick and pull anyway, just to browse and I ended up grabbing some chrome trim pieces and a 2 speed Taurus electric fan .. score! I also ordered a urethane front air dam .. so off goes the front bumper and and all the hardware for it. So, what brings me to this point as seen in the pic ... I saw that somebody was looking for a R180 replacement over on .com so I offered it up (figuring it'd give me reason the swap in one of the R200's I've got in the garage with my technoversions mount if I went ahead and took the R180 out.) Then as I was laying there looking at the drivehaft, I went ahead and pulled it out just for inspection. Well, that led me to pulling the auto tranny out, because hell .. I was planning on swapping in the 5 speed as well. Then of course the oil pan gasket needs to be changed as well, so I'll pull that out .. While I'm at it .. get it ?? Soooooo, long story short .. No rear end, no transmission (w/linkage, lines, MC, starter etc ...), and about to pull the pan off to change that gasket. ... oh yeah, and I need to do a little sheet metal trimming and POR-15'ing while the fenders are off as well !!! Ugh .. I HATE it !! But I LOVE IT!!!! Cheers! Edited September 24, 2012 by Poundz9oh9
Poundz9oh9
So my ADD with this project has been kicking in a lot lately and I've been bouncing around from one section to another. Anyway, I think I'm all set on parts for now and I'm promising myself that I'd finish what I've got before I buy more parts ...... After the most recent parts purchases that is So I put in a little work the other day getting a temp fix to my fuel starvation problem. Drilled out the drain plug hole Getting some threads in there Then pulled the pan to change out the gasket Planning on getting the pan gasket, rear main seal, clutch hydraulics and tranny installed this weekend. Crossing my fingers that the new goodies don't get me distracted. The new goodies 1" Suspension Techniques front sway bar and Ground Control Camber plates CF ZG Flares Cheap fender mirrors And my wheels arrived today as well :)/> Got A LOT to do before I get her on the road. Hoping to get it done soon though!!!! Edited November 10, 2012 by Poundz9oh9
Poundz9oh9
Wow, so much has changed since I last posted. Here's how she sat last week. I've done quite a lot of piddling around on her just a little bit at a time over the last few months. Chronologically, here's how the last few months went .. I finished cleaning up the oil pan and changed the gasket Finished up swapping out the auto for the 5 Speed Replaced the R180 with a same gear ratio R200 (cleaned it up a bit too) with Technoversions mount and replaced all halfshaft U-joints Got some decent (not perfect) replacement fenders. (I subsequently got my hands on a perfect set after the fact and will swap them out later Old New... I re-coated the backside with undercoating and stripped, treated any rust and then painted the outside Time to cut for flares!! If you look real close you can see the new front sway bar mounted as well (since I forgot to take any specific pics of it. Got some tires mounted on the Rotas finally (245's all the way around) Some finishing touches Photo Op outside the garage, this is when I decided I wanted some Camber plates for the front My little garage helper!! I relocated the font strut isolators to the rear and put in these GC camber plates on the front. Not super excited how they came out, and I'll order some weld-in units in the future to clean it up a little bit. On a side note, has anybody had any issues with this setup hitting the bottom of the frame on the hood? I had to notch the frame to keep the adjusters from buggering up from rubbing (after the fact - ugh), but at least I got my illuminas before they fell off the face of the earth .. hahah No criticizing the cut, I was in a hurry and I'm really not too worried about this hood anyway. It will get replaced with a fiberglass one (going to repro an old hood of mine from my silver Z. The next big thing I did was mask her off, grind and treat any rusty spots; good thing 90% of it was just surface stuff and then rattle can painted her. Rattle can critics hush! It was only to get a uniform color for the time being until I can get the bodywork and paint done! Right after I painted her and let the paint set for a few days, I went ahead and mounted the flares and cheapo fender mirrors. Prior to ride height adjustments. Adjusted ride height and moved her out of the garage for a a quick spin around the block to settle the suspension a bit. Tucked back in the garage. I found a local guy parting out a early model 260Z. I needed the front bumper brackets. I bout a 260Z replacement bumper last year from Black Dragon and it sat on the shelf until I found the brackets to mount it! The guy was real cool, allowed my to take the complete front clip (pretty much flawless) from the 260Z. I got a PERFECT 240 style grill, front turn signals with valances, both fenders and headlight buckets with headlights and side markers for CHEAP!! Finally a score for me! Getting ready to mount bumper Mounted, just prior to final adjustments. Also note that that brackets for a 260Z bumper have an extension for the rubber bumper guard to be mounted to. I'm going to use that to mount some LED daytime running lights instead. And once I leave Texas, I'll get rid of the license plate brackets on the bumper as well. Have to have the front plate for now And that's it for now. I'll take some interior pics once I get her all buttoned up. Right now, I'm changing the headlights, attempting to fix the door locks (and adding keyless remote entry) and then taking care of a pesky ignition problem. My HEI conversion module apparently doesn't like Texas heat. Right after I got done telling my wife that the car runs like a champ, she left me stranded about 2 blocks from the house. From the way she was acting I KNEW it was this module. Got a Pertronix unit on the way from Jegs, and I'll take this cheapy back to the store to get it replaced so that I can have a spare in the glove box. This is what a decent backfire can do to a muffler .... ask me how I know, hahaha ..... (new muffler on the way) No pics, but I also added an Optima Yellow top, and an ignition relay. I was getting a weak signal to the starter, so the temporary fix was to add a quick relay circuit. I'm losing my garage in about 3 weeks and the car will move to DD status for about 3 months, so I need to iron everything out by then. Wish me luck and let the Z gods bless me with reliability! hahaha Edited August 3, 2013 by Poundz9oh9
RebekahsZ
Looks great. Specs on Rotas?
Poundz9oh9
Kept them all the same size @17x9 -13 ... basically 4 fronts from the staggered package. I wanted to be able to rotate them.
Poundz9oh9
Well, it's been a long time coming. I replaced a lot of things to help with it's reliability and just finished it all up only a couple days before I had to store it. The new additions consisted of: New alternator New voltage regulator New ignition switch New stock coil and ballast New ignition switch New thermotime switch New water temperature sensor New muffler New AFM New PCV valve New FPR New aux air injector New Nissan fender mirrors I still have a ways to go as far as I'm concerned, but this is a good start as far as I'm concerned Now for the pics. Poundz9oh9
That's about it for now, but will definitely have more to follow! Next plans are: Remove rear sway bar Big brakes all the way around CV Shaft upgrade Have the r200 rebuilt with all New bearings/LSD installed New seat foam/leather covers Weld in camber plates Front/rear strut tower braces THEN, I'll shift my focus to sourcing everything for my motor swap, which should take a while. I think I decided on an LSA/6 speed combo. Yes, it's overkill, but will be totally worth it! Once I get the New motor and transmission installed, I'll turn around and remove it for engine compartment prep and then have all the bodywork and paint done asking with some New frame rails. Reinstall engine/transmission and then drive the piss out of it!!!
