Nolan
Alright so I have a 1972 240z and I'm looking to swap out the 4 speed for a 5 speed. I have read that the 280z transmission will bolt up with no problems but I was looking at the 280zx turbo tranny and was leaning towards making that upgrade because I will eventually buy a 280 motor and have it bored to something like 3.1 and put on either my existing E88 or buy a E31. And I was not sure if the 280z transmission could withstand the horses. So my question is will the 280zx turbo tranny bolt up? Or will the 280z 5 speed be hefty enough? Any input please! Thanks, Nolan
RebekahsZ
Any of the L-series Nissan trannies will bolt up. I ran a 4 cyl, 5 spd Nissan truck tranny for years in my 240z with no trouble. Got it 10 years ago at a pick-n-pull for $35. No clutch parts incompatability, used my old Z clutch and pressure plate. It is now in my buddies Z and he's driving it still. If the valve cover looks like yours or is even a few cylinders shorter, most of the parts will fit and work fine. You won't be making enough horses to matter even with a turbo. Thanks, Nolan You need to search around a bit, as this has all been discussed in detail. The information you need is out there and not all that hard to find. I much prefer to use google as my sole search engine. Just type in site:hybridz.org and the keyword. You can do this for any website.
