Guest ScaryFast
I am considering putting a 302 into my 72' 240z. My friend has one available in a lincon and was wondering if there is any differance between it and one in a Mustang. Also, I heard it was possable to make a BOSS 302 by putting Winsor heads on a 302 block with longer head studs ond domed pistons. Is it that easy? If i was to do this swap, what would I have to do to my z to keep it from twisting itself appart? I plan on using a five speed and am going for a carb instead of FI. blueovalz
There are big differences between a BOSS and a Windsor, but to make a Windsor 302 "appear" similar, and breath similar to a BOSS 302, you'd have to put the Cleveland 351 4v heads on it (which includes plugging the OEM water passages on the heads, and opening new ones facing the manifold. I actually ran what was called a "Steet Boss" in that I used the Cleveland 2V heads (again with modified water passages) with an intake made for this swap (just like a BOSS intake only for the smaller 2v ports). It ran great.
Guest Anonymous
Can't comment on the engine question but IMO it would be a good idea to add subframe connectors and thicker floor sheet metal. I also put a bolt through my engine insulators (motor mounts) not tight enough to negate any vibration dampening but to help keep them from tearing apart. Added a torque strap too. The transmission crossmember also runs all the way to the subframe connectors.
