Guest JAMIE T
While I was replying to Mikelly's question in the chevy forum, it got me thinking. My 351W was balanced using a motorport SFI approved balancer and a B&M flexplate(it was a Drag race only engine). I am using a Tremec 5spd when I put this engine in my Z. Do I need to have the assembly re-balanced when I put on the flywheel? The only stock components are the '69 block and '69 crank. I am positive it has 28oz. im-balanced(I think that is the correct term) balancer, and flexplate. Can I just replace the flexplate with a flywheel of the same im-balance? The motor is fresh and I would hate to have this thing rebalanced.
Dp351zcar
The guy that will be balancing my 351 told me that if you had it balanced with the flex plate, take the flex plate and the flywheel in and they can be made to match. So you won't don't need to pull the engine apart. If you have a 351 in your z how did you mount it? DP
Guest JAMIE T
Thanks DP. My engine isn't mounted yet. My front frame is completely tubular. If you have seen pics of Ron Jones' car, then you know what I mean. Roll bar tubing supports the upper strut mount. My cross member is completely modified from stock. I am using an engine plate like Terry Oxandales blue car has to mount the engine. Also, I am custom fabricating headers for my application since the engine requires at least a 1 7/8" primary header. My brother had Kooks custom headers on his 'Stang with this engine, but they wouldn't work on my car. The engine should be in-place in acouple of months. I am also using a Tremec 5 spd. I will have pics when REAL progrees begins.
