ZROSSA
Howdy all, I have seen that the 302w ford is around the 460lb mark weight wise. Is this with ali heads or steel heads? Cheers Douglas
Guest Anonymous
I'm not 100% on this but that sounds like the iron head weight.
ZROSSA
So would it be safe to say that with ali heads this engine would weigh around 410lbs. I have noticed that people are stroking them up to 351 cubes. Are there any proplems with the short rods? Can you get the same amount of power from them as you would a similar displacement chevy? The light weight is very tempting. Douglas
Guest Anonymous
The light weight is why I went with the 302. A buddy told me if you're going to add anything, add lightness (huh ) Anyway, if you can't get an answer here, try corner-carvers.com There's a bunch of Ford tech guys there. blueovalz
That number is most likely the iron head weight. My aluminum headed motor (302/289) weighs just a tad bit over 400lbs with a HD water pump and the heavy headers that I have. The newer 302 motors (50oz balancing) have a crank that is several pounds lighter.
