Guest Anonymous
Hey, The admin (morgan) at z31.com turned me on to this site. I have an 87Turbo 300 and a 75 280z. Due to extreme mods, not quite enough fuel and a little too much boost, I am replacing the motor on my 87T. I just ran into a great deal, where I got a 64k VG30ET from a 85T with everything, including the T3 turbo and a T5 tranny. I am going to transplant the motor into my 87T, and then (Possibly) rebuild the damage on the burnt motor. My 280 is currently running a l28 (duh) overbored to 3 liter, with a mild cam, header, intake and exhaust. With my suspension mods and the Toyo front brakes, it makes a great autox car, and thats what I use it for. Anyway, I have all the makings of a vg30 turbo 280, as well as the knowledge on how to push 400 to 500 hp out of the motor. Has anyone done a vg30 into a 1st gen z? If so, please link me or e-mail me any info you may have. Thanzx Drew
Drax240z
I know someone who is in the process of doing it, but its not done yet. And sorry, he doesn't have a website at all. He is a former Nissan tech, named Dan Giroux. You can reach him at datsun240z@home.com Good luck. ------------------ Drax240z 1973 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
Andrew Bayley
I've seen this swap done once before at the Z car convention back in '97. The only headache I saw was the steering shaft. That turbo sit right smack dab in the way. Needless to say, the steering shaft on the tubo V6 I saw had a pretty fancy steering shaft with A LOT of U-joints. Good luck -Andy
Scottie-GNZ
Andrew, this might be the one you are referring to. Never been able to find out who the owner is. This was one of my options a couple months ago before I settled on the GN. Seems like the engine could go back another couple of inches but the crossover pipe actually runs on top of the bellhousing. The further back you can get the engine the more clearance you will have with the steering. I have an extra u-joint in my steering rod and not sure why you would need more than one. ------------------ Scottie 71 240GN-Z http://www.mindspring.com/~vscott911/gnz.html
Guest Anonymous
Bah. The way around that is to solidly mount the turbo to the front of the engine and make some fancy manifolds for it(Making sure the manifolds don't have to support the turbo). This leaves plenty of room for steering and makes intercooler plumbing tons easier. I want one bad too:) Or you get a RHD s30 so that the steering isn't in the way:) Like this one: http://z31.com/~morgan/s30/VG30ET-S30-1.jpg> ------------------ Morgan morgan@z31.com http://carfiche.com http://z31.com
