Ben's Z
I ordered a oil pump today for my turbo motor build. It asked whether or not the car was a AT or MT. The donor car was an AT, but it is going in my MT 280z. What in the hell is the difference anyhow? I went with the AT part number.
HowlerMonkey
The automatic transmission cars had an oil cooler and a larger oil pump.
Kash
The automatic transmission cars had an oil cooler and a larger oil pump. All turbos have a larger oil pump...no difference.
Ben's Z
Ok so I ordered the AT Oil Pump and I am using it my car that is a manual, won't hurt anything correct?
Ben's Z
Speaking of which do I need to run an oil cooler? Do most guys run an oil cooler? I can't see Nissans theory on why a car with a manual trans didn't get one and automatics did, if anything manual cars were going to be ragged on harder and should have got the coolers. Z Greek
Ok so I ordered the AT Oil Pump and I am using it my car that is a manual, won't hurt anything correct? Don't do it, your transmission will get confused and start trying to shift by itself!
HowlerMonkey
I've run for years without the cooler. If your engine originally came with a cooler, the oil filter bypass will be in the adapter housing and it's normal location in the block will have a small freeze plug in it. I've run it both ways for years without any issues and the only issues you might run into would be having a clogged oil filter without the bypass working. If you keep your oil in good shape, there should be no issues.

HowlerMonkey
You will have to get a nipple that screws into the block. Many of them are unbelievably hard to get out so a trip to the junkyard might not end well in that a huge struggle would net you one with buggered up threads. I'm sure someone has one for sale here. Pyro
The only difference between the AT turbo and MT turbo pump is the spring. The AT has a lower pressure spring so the cooler doesn't blow up.
