ninja240z
I have a 71 240z with stock head and block. I am currently removing the stock exhaust manifold and installing a 6-2-1 header. I'm thinking about changing to an 4bbl carb with an electric choke and later thinking about adding nitrous. Does anybody have any quarter mile numbers of this early I-6 with nitrous or a 4bbl or both. Also wondering which 4bbl would be idea for off of the line performance. Thanks, all comments appreciated. Drax240z
You're probably going to get more info about this topic on zcar.com. From what I've heard, the stock Su's are far more desireable on the L series engines than the 4 barrel conversion is. I know of a few people that have gone from 4 barrel to SU's and picked up power AND fuel economy. Don't rule out the SU's because they are unfamiliar, they really are a very good carb. ------------------ "Gimme Fuel, Gimme Fire, Gimme that which I desire" -Metallica Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html http://members.home.net/drax77/newpage.html
Guest Anonymous
I'd keep the SUs. I've got a very nice engine and set of 40mm dcoe webers for sale. NisMo everything inside the engine. Coming out of my car in a month or two. Email me if you're seriously interested. It's not cheap and it won't get shipped or delivered, you have to pick it up. ------------------ Morgan http://z31.com/~morgan/s30 http://carfiche.com
BLKMGK
Umm, don't do it. On a V8 the air is drawn from the top of the engine DOWN into the intake. On a Z the air is drawn sideways into the intake. When you run a V8 type carb the air is drawn DOWN, turns 90 degrees (can you say wall wetting?) and then flows sideways into the intake. Poor mixture distribution, wall wetting, and who knows what else kinds of problems ensue. Use a sidedraft carb - it's what they were made for. I'll have three Webbers available soon but they will need tuning for whatever application they are applied to and I'm NOT the guy to tune them I'm afraid. ninja240z
Thanks for the response I was just about to buy a 4bbl intake when I read your comments and ran across another site with a 12sec dual su carb z. Here is the link. http://www.ontariozcar.com/novdec00/novdec06.htm [This message has been edited by ninja240z (edited December 19, 2000).]
