3.1 liter (and other) dyno results!

Recommended Posts

I ran my car on Avalon Racing's dyno in Manchester, NH on Saturday. I was pretty pleased, but I'm sure most of you V8 and turbo'd Zs will only chuckle at the numbers.

Best run of 176.6 hp at the rear wheels. I was only hoping for 165, so WOOHOO!

Engine is a 3.1 liter, 10.1:1 CR, 290/.503" cam, 2" Jag carbs on modified (to match carb diameter) N36 intake manifolds.

I did have a miss above 5500 that I haven't

noticed at the track. Stumbled pretty badly, gotta find out why.

Others that ran:

240 w/ 280ZX turbo (11psi) 182 rwhp

Z31 ITS car 147 rwhp

280Z ITS car 153 rwhp

Z32 NA (stock) 179 rwhp

Z32 NA (intake/exhaust) 189 rwhp

Z32 TT (intake/exhaust) 314 rwhp

Z32 TT (intake/exhaust/ECU) 339 rwhp

1.6 liter Miata 89? 98? (I forget)

Sounds pretty good Dan. Like scottie said, compare that to the Z32 NA stock that puts out 179hp. Which was a factory claimed 222hp. And you get an idea. smile.gif

Pictures would be nice too, as Kevin said. smile.gif

Those stage 3 TTZ's did pretty good. 339rwhp is about 400hp at the crank.

I was also very impressed with the TTs. The stock NA seemed low for 222hp, though. The fact that the L28 turbo, with Wolf Racing computer controlled ignition and injection, was only a few hp ahead of me was very encouraging. I developed a stumble above 5500 which I hadn't noticed at the track. Don't know if it was fuel starvation or ignition yet.

I'm figuring 177 at the rear wheels must be on the order of 208 at the flywheel, huh?

For pictures, go here: http://www.zccne.addr.com/ click on "members", then "240-280Z", there are a couple of pics, one at Mosport, the other at Watkins Glen.

Also, I've got some pics from the dyno day with my recently installed headlight covers and front and rear BRE spoilers. How do I include them in a post? Or I guess I could submit them to the webmaster for inclusion in the member rides section?

Dan, after a bit of sleuthing on that site, I found a picture of your car at:

http://www.zccne.addr.com/Rides/Dan-Baldwin2.jpg

So to show it, you just put directly in front of that URL, and directly after it, no spaces anywhere.

If you have other pictures, you can put them on one of the photo hosting sites or your own web space through your ISP (if you have any) and reference them the same way and use those and tags around the URL to show them in a post.

Dan,

That's very cool!

After I return from the Motorsport show, I'm taking a bunch of Z's to the local Dyno Shop for comparison.

There will be a Scarab v8, my turbo Z, 2.9 Rebello w/ mikuni and 3.1 Rebello with 50mm

SUs. I'm then taking the same cars are getting quarter mile times and then it's on to the Sears Pt. Raceway. Dave Rebello (crew) and Andy Craig (dandos.com), will be assisting me at the dyno and hopefully the track.

It'll be good to see how his numbers compare to yours.

Randy,

According to Dave, he told me that they need atleast 6 hours on the dyno for my car. I was only going to rent it for 3. Hmmmmmm.....it would be cool to have a dyno day though.....

I'll tell you what....I'll take my turbo Z and do all the tuning on a Saturday. I'll then see if the owner will give me a deal if I bring a bunch of cars for a mini event.

Michael,

I'm not on the internet too much, I'm just too busy with work and family. I just happen to be looking around and ran into this message. Please feel free to email me.

What's Dave building for you?

The Dyno Shop I'm going to is all the way in Santa Rosa and owned by Ken Gardner. For the most part, I'm having my DFI tuned for hp then driveability.

There is another dyno shop in Mountain View, the owner thought it would be good advertising and offered us a discount for a few hours on the dyno. My friends and I decided to split the bill and you are more than welcome to join in. I'll have my turbo and v8 Z there. I suggest we break in our motors first.

I'm headed up to Dave's today and check my oil pan.

Got any pics. of your car?

Hey DFI guys,

If anyone wants to share or exchange knowledge tuning their DFI let me know. Me and my buddie did a little bit of tuning last night. I am running 18lbs of boost on a old Cartech system with a T04 strim turbo with 38lb injectors maxed out.
