machining rotor spacers for front brake upgrades

Recommended Posts

I've been searching for this all day with no luck. I know there are the Modern Motorsports and Silvermine spacers available, but apparently Ross is hard to get ahold of and the Silvermine spacers are made in such small quantities that they have to price them really high to cover overhead costs.

Anyway, I have access to a machine shop to build my own spacers, but I can't find the dimensions anywhere. I thought I'd seen them around here somewhere, but I still can't find them.

I have a pair of S12+8 calipers, vented '84 Z31 rotors, and they're going on my '78 280z. I've heard everything from 3/8" to 1/2", depending on whether they're going on a 240z or a 280z.

Also, are they a 4x114.3 bolt spacing? Or is the bolt pattern on the hub different?

Sorry for the questions, I usually don't ask for this much but I've had no luck at all today.

The PCD for the holes is 103mm, and the holes are 10.5mm diameter. The center bore is 80.9mm, through bore is 78mm, and the pilot is 80.9mm diameter and 4mm deep. The thickness depends on if you have 280Z hubs or 240Z hubs. I don't know the thickness required for the 280Z hubs.

That dimension doesn't fit my car...my 240Z spacers were much closer to 5/8". 16mm, actually. Actually, there are a lot of folks in that thread that are wrong...the spacers go on the BACK of the hub, not over the wheel lugs, and from a quick reference against the difference in brake rotor heights, I'd say that you're looking at a 10 or 11mm spacer thickness.

I have a CAD drawing of the ones I had cut for mine.. .but it wasnt thick enough and I had to use a thin washer to space the caliper over. BMW 528i calipers here... so measure and measure again is your best bet.
