EZ Wiring Headlight Help

Recommended Posts

Got back into my rewire and hit a problem. I have been following this reference http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/58899-ezwiring-guide-still-not-complete/

And it says that my RED 01 Headlight power wire connects at the column and goes all the way out to the headlight connector. Yet in my harness, my RED 01 Headlight power only goes to the column section and no other wire is to be found in any of the other harnesses that could travel to the headlight connector. This is really bugging me because it makes no sense. IMO i really should only need a the low beam and high beam from the switch because they are being supplied power from the RED 01 wire. But I do not know what to do with the left over red wire at the connector that is suppose to be supplied by RED 01 according to the reference. I am thinking it should be grounded but I dont know.

Help would be greatly appreciated

It is a 72 that originally had a manual transmission. Its far from that now with the JTR swap and everything but I think I am getting closer to an answer. I have my multimeter out seeing how it all might work according to the reference post and I think part of my issue is the switch itself. But if someone can confirm that the red wire up at the headlight connector was orginally a ground then I should be good.

hmm well then I guess I am stuck. there are no more wires in the front section of my EZ wiring harness. Headlight power goes from fuse block to the column. I wonder if I am missing a wire because that would make the reference guide make sense. Any other ideas?

Yes it is the EZ Wiring harness. These grounded headlights are just killing me up at the combination switches. Plus nobody has really done a great write up, just a bunch of scattered information. Been trying to follow the painless wiring help on here but its kind of difficult. If anyone has got there headlights working with the EZ kit it would be greatly appreciated

I have actually been using your post and it has really helped me out. My problem is that for the connector of the headlight(Front section of the EZ wiring harness), my EZ wiring harness does not provide the RED 01 Headlight power wire. The RED 01  wire is provided in the column section of the EZ wiring harness and I hooked it up to the red wire there like you said. So what do I do with the last wire of the 3 up at the actual headlights connector. I am thinking that there should be a RED 01 wire provided in the front section?

I am still debating about using a relay but to do the relay there is still a missing wire I think. Well maybe the wiring would change to a more traditional wiring with the EZ wiring kit like this http://audi.humanspeakers.com/headlight-simple.htm. When looking at the diagram from the datsun relay mod http://alteredz.com/image/electrical/Headlight_Relay_Diagram.jpg

I am still missing what would replace the red wire "r" that comes from the existing harness

Alright I think I am on to something. According to the guys who did the Painless wiring swap, they hook up Dimmer switch to the white/red of the headlight connector and use it as headlight out. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/29786-painless-harness-to-z-column-harness-headlight-combo-switch/page-2

Where according to the EZ guide I have been following, he says nothing about the dimmer switch but has the ground from the turn signal switch hooking up to this same white/red wire on the headlight connector. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/58899-ezwiring-guide-still-not-complete/

I am thinking that I should go as the painless guys but still do not know if this will be right or where even the dimmer power wire would go...
