What's up with the sky high price on cast pistons?

Just checking a few of the mediocre suppliers like Checker/Shucks/Kragen and Autozone's websites and they're looking at 68 bucks per on bone stock cast 86mm L28 flattop pistons. Was looking for .020 over/86.5mm ones actually but the price is the same in any case. Considering the price for a Ross forged is about 78 per not counting pins, does that seem a bit on the steep side or am I nuts? I checked on L24 ones and they're more along the lines of 36/per which seems odd as there's alot more L28's in circulation than L24's.

Anyone else found these in the 40ish range per piston, otherwise I'll just have to go with the forged ones. Aw Shucks.

Check out Flatlander Racing site for some good piston sources. See if they have Nissan pistons in the Silvolite "KB" line of economy-street performance pistons and check the Top-Line brand that's listed (price is good, check around re quality).

Also, check out Sterling. I know they have an L28 cast piston that can be used with an L24 rod and L28 crank (improved rod/stroke but correct deck ht.) and it has a very shallow dish to keep street c.r. reasonable with an N42/N47 head. DAW

I don't know about a web site, but they are located in San Diego, CA. If you want I can serve as a middle man. You give me the info on the parts and the shipping destination and I will let you know the cost. This goes for anyone interested.
