Guest eric-z
what do you guys think about boring out the 2.8 block using z24 pistons in a 2.9L turbo engine? would you use the 240 rods or the stock 280? would the larger bore cause for less turbo boost to be used? any web sites would be appreciated as well. sorry if this is a repeat post I could only find information on useing these pistons with the 3.1L stroker in the search. eric
Z-Gad
i would not recommend using the LZ24 pistons for a turbo motor. They were not designed for the application and do not hold up well...first hand experience. You'd be better off w/ the stock 2.8 turbo bottom end. Guest eric-z
thanks for the reply, I was thinking it wouldn't work very well beacause the stroker guys were talking about how the pistons were not working. they were talking about getting forged pistons, what do you all think about useing pistons with the same bore as the 3.1L. I read on a previous post that even bored out to 89mm the cylinder walls are still thicker than the 300zxtt.
Z-Gad
The most difficult part I had was locating a 20 year old block which had walls still thick enough to do the 89mm bore. I went through having 3 blocks sonic tested before I found one which was marginal enough to do an 89mm bore. I would do yourself a favor and go no more than 88mm. I only went that high since I had my first block bored for the LZ24 pistons. If I had to do it again...88mm baby!!
