Guest ZDreamin
hey i recently took a chance and spent some time and money dropping in a cheap junk yard motor in my 76, but for some reason its idling really high like 2k, even after its warmed up any suggestions, i am reusing my intake from the previous motor which idled fine. i am a novice mechanic any help would be greatly apprieciated. also there is a loud fast ticking sound can be heard in the car too, i figure its something with the valves, is this a very bad sign??? sean
Jason81NA,82RBtt
Sounds like you might have left off a vacuum line off.If not you might want to check and see if a 76 has a EGR valve. I've seen where the mounting block is cracked. This happen to my 79 and I removed the EGR valve and block off plate. If that's still not it might the intake gasket or the seal around the tips of the injectors. Good luck JasonRB260ZX
Z_Dust
I agree with JasonRB260ZX. Most likely it is a vacum hose that needs to be connected back to the manifold, or some other intake leak. It happened to me when I replaced mine. I had to replace my intake manifold on my 77z due to problems with my EGR valve. It was corroded all the way out right under the EGR. Luckily my mechanic sold me one for $25.00. I removed the EGR valve on the "new" one. Good as new now. Good luck. Hopefully is that simple.
