RebekahsZ Posted August 24, 2014 Share Posted August 24, 2014 I see a lot of threads asking about tire clearance for certain size wheels/tires. This is to share my experience with drag slicks and BAMF flares. The tires are 275/60/15 (28" diameter) Mickey Thompson Drag Radials which I have borrowed to run at the GA 1/2-mile in September (they don't allow bias ply slicks). They are mounted on 15X8 Weld Draglites with a 5.5" backspacing and a 1.25" spacer adapter to yield a final backspacing of 4.25". I have coilovers and BAMF flares cut super high, and I cut at least an inch forward into the "dog leg" so that the inner fender is flat from the inside curve to the skin of the car.. My camber is pretty close to zero, and my track has been narrowed 1" on each side with shortened LCAs. The pictures show that the flares are dangerously close to the tire, not at the widest part of the flare, but rather at the narrowest part of the flare, at the forward edge of the flare (near the door). A belt sander with 80 grit made quick work of the clearancing. The tire sidewall is 1/4" from the spring perch (the angle of the photo is bad). thezguy Posted August 25, 2014 Share Posted August 25, 2014 (edited) I know this pretains to BAMF flares but i thought youd like to know that the 11" wide wheels worked out well on the ZG flares. Phantom Posted August 26, 2014 Share Posted August 26, 2014 Basically you're saying that it's a 0 offset on 11" wheels since you have 5.5" backspacing. Must have some serious spacers in there? When I ordered my wheels john asked me for 2 measurements. The width and backspacing. If you know the width of the rim you want and the max back spacing available you can calculate the offset. So in conclusion the offset is irrelevant if you know the width & backspacing as explained to me by one of the best in the business.
