Guest Anonymous
I wasn't sure where to ask this question but here it is. I own a 81' Nissan 280ZX and I was thinking about getting the engine from my dad's 91' Cadillac since he will be gettin rid of it soon. Is it possible to swap the V8 into my car? If so what is the extra difficlulty involved...I won't be doing it though..too difficult for a 16 year old. Thanks in advance.

Guest John Adkins
yes, someone posted a link to a page that detailed one person's bad experience with the Northstar. There was a long thread about it... But I'd take it with a grain of salt... If some guy had a bad experience with a small block Chevy and put up a web page saying how crappy they are, would we take just take it as the gospel truth? Just some food for thought
Guest Anonymous
I don't know if it's fact a fiction but I've talked with some ex-Caddy owners and amongst them, there was a common valvetrain problem with the Northstar engine. I don't know if that's an inherant problem due to the design or bad maintenance but it seemed to plague the Seville STS owners. One gentleman claimed that timing chain slipped a tooth and valves slammed. I suggest delving into Cadillac forums to see others had this problem. Someone also mentioned overheating problems with his Northstar because cylinders 7 and 8 weren't seeing enough coolant? Anyone else hear of these problems? Back when I first started seeking possible engine swaps, the Northstar was among the first. Are the Aurora's RWD? I know the Seville's wered FWD and fitting that motor into would bring up issues. Other modern V8's I'd suggest are the LS1 (we have a few LS1's swaps already and I'm sure Jeromio would be willing to help with any questions), the Lexus 4L V8 because that's been done too or the Infiniti Q45 V8 as someone is in the process of doing that now and it does have a fatter torque curve than the Lexus and Northstar V8's.
