Purely hypothetical Cylinder Head question

Hey folks, been lurking here for some time, posted a time or two under my old login but I kinda forgot what it was so I made a new one. Just a question that slipped into my mind today while I'm bored at work. In the How to modify your L series book, they show an O.S. Giken DOHC head. While this is as I said purely hypothetical as I'm not really up on spending 10 grand for a head when I could get a whole skyline engine for half that (or thereabouts) Has anyone ever seen one of these for sale I know O.S. Giken is still in business, they make stuff like triple disk clutches for Mk IV Supras. I'm currently looking at just doing the trusty L28T in my 240z and I've been looking at a somewhat unusual idea that Jim Thagard has quite seriously, but I figured, what the heck, I'll ask. Anyway, as I'm planning on working on the Z more now, I'll probably be somewhat active on here.

I've never seen one advertised for sale. I read about the DOHC engine in a book; real short article.

Just FYI (for the next Trivial Pursuit game you play) Japan offered a tax break to any of their citizens that purchased one of the DOHC Z's when they first were being sold new; the DOHC engines, if I remember correctly, were 2.0 liter engines & their emissions were far less than the SOHC engine.

When I first read that article-it hit me/now I know why the Z's engine bay is so wide; it had to be in order to fit the wider DOHC engine.

Anyway-just thought I'ld pass that along.

Kevin,

Thanks, I was feeling a bit neglected there. Oh to have a DOHC Z, oh well 2 valve engines are better for torque at least.

Yeah it would be nice, maybe if I ever win the lottery. I could probably swap in an RB-26DETT for considerably less is what's probably saddest part. Can't say that would hurt my feelings a whole lot either. What I think would be really neat is to essentially plop the Z body onto the whole skyline drivetrain/suspension setup front and rear for a nice AWD Z. Yeah it's not very practical and would cost a small fortune, but it would definitely be fun and unique.

from what ive heard, the cross flow and the 4valve heads made abotu 20% improvement, and they rev a little higher, high end mostly i think. i dont think it had that much guts off the line, but gears could change that up a little too. it probably isnt worth the money

to grab one of those heads, but it would be nice icon_smile.gif turbo l28, cheapest and it makes good power

thats kinda funny since one of the first things I thought of when I got my zx was how to make it a AWD setup. while i would DEFINATELY love to have a whole skyline drivetrain under the zx's skin. the cost might be a little on the pricey side.

one idea I had was maybe a turbo eagle talon's awd system but I am not to sure if it would be able to handle a V8 power since it was designed for a four-banger. do you guys know of any AWD v8 cars? I seem to remember something about a cyclone,.. maybe syclone?? being AWD.

this kinda perks my attention since I am going to go to boot camp (oh god what have i got myself into icon_smile.gif ) for the navy on the 30th of july and since i will be active duty one of the perks is i can rent a stall at the bases machine shop (the selection of tools I will have access to just makes me drool everytime I think about it) for like 5 bucks a day. and the more I look at my zx the more i notice i will need to fix. I was kind of thinking while i'm in the military i might just be a piece of junk to get me around while I COMPLETELY rebuild the zx into a mean custom machine. icon_biggrin.gif

any ideers on how this could be done? I would really like to know. oh yeah, sorry to change the subject but i just had to voice ny thoughts.

anything can be done, it would be a PITA to do that AWD conversion though, you would have a lot of clearance issues, your diffs would be really low to the ground, but if you did it, i would beg you to take me for some donuts and second gear scratch left turns!
