Has anyone done a 300zx engine conversion to a 260Z? Does it require an engineers report? What sort of difference will it make? I'd love a turbo .Any Aussies on the site?

I'm helping a friend put a VG30DET into a 260Z using a wrecked (rolled) 240Z chassis as a mule. To answer your Q's:

- Yes it will require an engineers cert (and a VicRoads inspection). We have a recognised engineer acting as a 'consultant'.

- approx 190kW stock output. More than enough to begin with icon_biggrin.gif

Nick,

OVer here in the states, the biggest concern on 1st generation 300ZX motor's in early Z(ed)'s is to get the steering shaft around the turbo. With a right hand drive car, however, things might be a little easier. Either way, I've seen it done a few times before so it's very possible.

Greg Dupree at Precision Z in Rhesda CA has built a badass VG30DETT car that was featured in the Nov/Dec issue of Z Car magazine in 1997. I spoke to him about the install and he said it was a really straight forward swap. I don't know if he is still there but you might want to give him a call and see if he has produced any motor mounts or other parts. Les
