pparaska
I was thinking about an old Volvo with a JTR V8 conversion for my next daily driver. I'm not kidding .
Kevin Shasteen
New GM 4.2 DOHC/6; sounds like the engine Dellorian (speeling?) would have prefer'd for the Trans/Am back in 69 when it deguted. If you'll remember-he originally wanted a performance version of the OHC/6 to be the the T/A engine..GM said no & Pontiac went w/the 400ci. Of course there's no comparison to the Pontiac OHC/6 of yesteryear -vs- this new DOHC/6...but its the exotic-ness of the times that offers comparisons, if anything at all. W/two xtra valves per cylinder-this engine is a huge potential for power...rodders & the aftermarket will probably jump on it. Just the fact that it's chain driven I think shows GM's intention for longevity & power; whereas now days it seems like every Mfg is using a belt drive on their DOHC's; who knows(?). Guest John Adkins
My Dad had a '67 Pontiac Tempest with the OHC 6. It was the Hi-Po engine with a factory 4bbl carb and hotter cam. It was pretty powerful inline 6 and could give some small V8s a good run. It was basically a Chevy inline 6 with a new Pontiac designed OHC aluminum head .... The problem they had was that if the new owner didn't follow the cam break-in procedure, it would wipe out the cam lobes quickly. My dad got the year old car in '68 really cheap with a bad cam, had a new cam and followers installed, followed the break in procedure and had a great car. Guest Anonymous
Yeah I saw a OHC Poncho 6 in a 68 firebird in the 70's that was turbocharged. Went pretty good although it was a blow-through design. Blew thru a quadrajet if memory serves (not very well usually.. ) Lone
