Guest lamar32
I got my project rolling but the car isn't running good. I have 66 327 out of an vette the heads or 487x with mild port work the valves or 1.94 1.95 with roller rockers .The cam is an elgine 920p 480 lift on the intake and exhaust 292 advertised duration, 230@50, 74 degrees of overlap, lobe separation is 107 intake and 111 exhaust, and it is an hydraluic cam. The compression is about 10:1 or maybe a little more. the car seems to hestitate over about 45 mph. my questions our what size and kind of carb do you recommend. The guy who built the motor is n't a tuner and recommends I go get it dyno tuned he also said the motor doesn't seem to have enough vacum I have a carter 600 vac 2nd the carb sucks he just give it to me to get me going. any help would be appreciated or if you can recommend a shop to get these last bugs worked out. sorry for the long post. Peternell
Compression, may not be what you think it is. If the compression is too low for the cam then you've found some or your problems. (I'll let the cam guru's [are you listening kevin] address that issue) The 327's and most mid and late 60's engines made compression by using smaller 64cc chambers (The 11:1 motors also used pop up pistons) The 487's and 487X's have the much larger 76cc heads which will drop your compression (technical phrase here) a "bunch" Just my $.02, wait and see what others say
Guest lamar32
The pistons are 100 thosandths or 125 thosandths forged dome. the engine builder said prably 10:1 or maybe 10.2:1 thanks
