ZX Dizzy in 260Z sanity check

I'm about to put a ZX Dizzy (E12-80 module) in my 260Z replacing the standard early electronic distr. I find lots on how to wire it, but I can't find anywhere whether I should wire it through the existing ceramic conector block off the coil, or go straight from the coil to the new distributor. (Sounds like I can bypass the ceramic, but I don't want to fry the module, thus the question.)

Thanks,

Randy

do you mean ballast resistor. when i went with that module on my 73,i left it in and did all the other wirign to make it run first. i never did get around to bypassing it, you could just get it to run first with that resistor, then try to bypass it, i dont think you will fry the module because zx cars dont have a resistor there.

OK, brilliant with hind sight, I'll fill this in for future search results.

The 3 terminal ceramic ballast resister block is bypassed and can be taken out or left as a convenient place for connections.

First, just normal wiring (per Bryan Little's site) of the ZX dizzy works fine........but no tach if you try and use the existing wire that came off the ballast resister.

The main thing that has to be unplugged (removal is optional) on a 260Z is the existing electronic ignition modual (thanks to Dragonfly for that one). It is located up on the firewall in the passanger compartment (just imagine the most unaccessable spot you can think of). Once unplugged, the tach works fine with the existing wiring.

It was not difficult and the results are excellent.

I'm continually amazed at the amount of electrical crap I can pull out of my car without the slightest negative change in performance. Buzzers, bells, ignition amps, wiring for seatbelt warning lights, bypasses for the seatbelt ignition interlock, etc. All unnecessary CRAP, and all gone! And does the car seem to miss it? Nope. I'm sure I'll end up pulling fifty pounds of the stuff before I'm done.

Oh, I replaced my old 260 distributor with a 280Z unit, and was amazed at the difference it made! Good job, replacing yours.
