Guest Anonymous
hey you guys how is it going? I just recently bought a '79 280zx and I plan on doing the JTR v-8 convert on it. I am going to run it NA fora while (i'm only 18 and I don't exactly have what you call good income, more like 22 hrs/wk at a whole whopping $6.10/hr..ugh)but once I get the cash I plan on running a ati procharger. I like to research the things I plan on doing rather completely. like I say a once of prevention is worth $800 of f*** ups.anyways on to the notion. i've noticed that most guys want to run FI and boost right. but the way that i understand it is that if you run the boost through a carb setup you can actually run more boost! just 'cause whaen the boost charge goes through the carb the gas will help bring down the intake charge temp thus offsetting engine knock a little more than what it would be without it thus creating the opportunity for more boost. at least that is how i percieve it. what do you guys think?the gain might e marginal but it is still a gain. soryy about the length of the post just trying to get my ideas on paper so to speak. ------------------ how was I to know that it would do that!..heh..cool...do it again! Guest Anonymous
Properly tuned and designed fuel injection is ALWAYS better than any carbs. Fuel cools, whether the fuel comes from a carb or from a fuel injector. A fuel injector is probably better at cooling than a carb because the fuel is sprayed in much finer particles, increasing surface area and thus vaporization rates. This is a moot point though, since with any serious forced induction engine you will have an intercooler. You are going to have an intercooler, aren't you? ------------------ Morgan http://z31.com/~morgan/s30 http://carfiche.com
John Scott
I wouldn't expect any gains from the cooling effect of blown carburetion. FI can be tuned throughout the rpm range more precisely. JS
Guest JAMIE T
Blow through carburation is a absolute tuning nightmare, though I have seen carb adapter on the intake side of a Paxton Novi 2000, it was just a box (plenum) that was attached to the intake. It seems like it would be kind of like a carb(s) on top of a roots type? I've heard problems with boost pressurizing the float bowl on Holleys with blow through. I read once in a mag that a company(?) can modify them so that doesn't happen though.
John Scott
Its no big deal to blow through a carb. You don't need a box like the old Paxton design. All you have to do on a holley is seal off the hole where the choke linkage comes through with JB weld, mill air horn, and put in plastic floats. It works great, but not as well as FI. For the sake of argument look into www.customcarb.com , then call one of their staff. They'll tell you a very convincing line on blow through carburetion. Have plenty of real world examples to back up their claim. Worth looking into if you are interested.
