Aluminum Fuel Cell

I've got an aluminum cell that has popped two pinhole leaks for reasons unknown but none since. I feel that aluminum cells are just fine but that cells like the one Mikelly has that are enclosed in a steel safe are... safer! icon_wink.gif

If you decide to have one built consider enclosing it in steel too. I worry that a rear-end accident would push my cell into my R200 brace and puncture it - not cool. Protecting that sucker is of great importance and foam would be a good idea - maybe a bladder too. (okay, I'm paranoid)

I have been running a plastic fuel cell in a 1/8 steel box that a guy at work made for me but the plastic cell is poorly made and isn't retaining its shape and leaking. The same guy has offered to make me a custom cell out of 1/8 aluminum. This will be TIG welded and have baffles in it and I would like to mount it on its own ( not in the steel box). This guy does beautiful work but I need to know what the downfalls of an aluminum cell might be. Is it better than plastic in the event of an accident. Legality? Any input appreciated. On another note I had the spiders TIG welded in my 3:90 R-200 today. You can't do good burnouts with an open rear and a line lock. If I have trouble with it I'll find a 3:54 somewhere. I think this would go better with the T-56.
