whoa scotty,

....i hope you didnt misunderstand my previous post...(but i think you did),it was meant to be compliment....not a thing wrong w/not wasting money...just shows youre smart enough to be able to do it efficiently ....i wish i could be as resourceful..

....and as far "doing everything yourself" hell!, that was a tribute to your ability and desire to do it.......

....i have much more respect for someone who builds their own car than someone who was just able to buy one....(everybody on here does)....i dont know any millionaires but i wouldnt think any of 'em would be impressed by anyones ability to buy a 10-20 year old sportscar....but they might(should) be impressed w/the car and someones ability to take one of these cars and be able to improve 'em

......sorry if you took it any way other than a compliment...it was never my intention to insult you... my appologies,

(but youre still tight)

hehehehe,

(just a joke)

You got took on that valve job. Did they port it or something too. I have never paid over 135 bucks for a 3 angle.

As for cheap places to get parts, try here

http://www.autopartsgiant.com/

and here

http://www.partsamerica.com/default.asp

The top one has rings cheaper than the second one, but the rod bearings are cheaper at the second one. I would use the Nissan head gasket and intake gasket though. Spend the money on those parts.

Both of these places take about a week or so to get the parts out to you, but there are cheaper than buying them locally.

I have been accumulating some parts to build a 280 engine and will have them all pretty soon. That is how I do some of this stuff, buy it as you go. Plus rarely do you need a complete gasket set. Make sure you replace the valve stem seals though. I got some Beck Arnley one's this time, and they were shorter than the felpro's.

Good luck, and let us know if we can help.

you know what, i might just take you up on that offer to go out and meet you. it would be a hell of a lot easier having someone be like "WHOOOOAAAAAA, you forgot blah, blah, and blah" than have some metal piece go through the hood when i try and start it up! cuss.gif although that would be kinda cool....i'll wait until i actually find a decent engine to pick. oh, that brings up a good question: when looking for a donor engine, what SHOULD i be looking for? like, should it run? i have no clue, but i bet running would be the best. i imagine i can't take it apart there to make sure it's what i want, so luck of the draw maybe? i really appreciate you guys answering my q's, especially to someone who has VERY little experience working on cars (not driving them... rockon.gif )

actually, i just thought of something...i could repay you guys with financial services!!! 2thumbs.gif i started working at smith barney for this broker, and he's pretty damn good. if ya want, i can give his number and you can call him. you might even be able to get a discount! well, something to chew on. thanks.

Don't feel too down about the budget scotty, I've gotcha beat tongue.gif

min-wage working about 12-16 hours a week is painfully slow. A lot of times I'll see things for sale, even talk to the seller back and forth, and I'm just dying to put down the money that I don't have... frown.gif Right now I have school and other things to pay for, but living with the folks helps out a lot, I'm thankful to even have a garage with your average tools. Since I got my Z I've probably spent about $500 on tools for this project alone. Who's sig used to say something about champagne taste, beer budget? I loved that quote, it pretty much captures the mood of my project. Right now I have my fuel system, most of my i/c system, still gotta buy sds and my turbo, and get my exhaust done and whatnot, Time I have, money I don't. But since one is the other, eventually I have both. Now all I gotta do is get to "eventually." I had a lot of stuck/broken bolts when I first started which really made me frustrated. Buy a good extractor is my $.02!
