After 6 months it lives!

I just fired my Haltech E6K programmable EFI controlled engine for the first time. Kind of scarry when you know that every single wire going to the engine was hand wired by yourself. So far I've got the engine idling and all seems well. No fluid leaks and no smoke. Sounds VERY smooth. rockon.gif The only problems so far is an exhaust leak at the down pipe/turbo intersection and A LOT of tuning ahead. I'm using a DIY Wide Band O2 analyzer to tune it. A tool that no one should be without. Idle @ 800rpms is giving me a solid 14.8 AFR. Here are the stats if anyone is interested:

1972 240Z

Rebuilt 82 L28ET base engine with P90 head

Stock cam

Haltech E6K programmable fuel/ignition computer

Stock AAC Valve and modulator for idle control (Controlled by ECU)

Fuel:

550cc RC Engineering low 2.4 ohm barbed injectors (Multi point batch fire)

Custom fuel rail (I made myself from Arizona Speed and Marine stock)

AEM Adjustable FPR (mounted to fuel rail)

Walbro 255 l/hr fuel pump (Controlled by ECU)

1975 fuel tank

Intake/exhaust:

T3/T4 hybrid turbo

60mm 240SX throttle body

Modified Skyline GT-R intercooler

2.25" intercooler piping

2.5" SS "Scotties" downpipe

3 BAR MAP sensor

Air temp sensor

Coolant sensor

240SX TPS

Ignition:

300ZX Trigger wheel in a 280ZX distributor (For ECU timing only)

ACCEL Buick GN 3 pack double coil in waste spark mode

3 channel dummy igniter (Drives coils from ECU signal)

ACCEL 300+ 8.5mm spiral core wires

NGK Plugs

Cooling:

Griffin aluminum radiator (chevy)

Electric fan (Controlled by ECU)

There isn't much in this engine that I didn't do myself. What a rush, when after 6 months of solid work, you get to the point when you can fire the engine for the first time.

Now comes the really hard part. As I said earlier, I've got the engine idling, but I'm only using the base fuel MAP provided to me by Haltech. Now I have to learn about proper tuning Fundamental. Does anyone have a good reference book they would like to recommend? I have the tools, all I need is the know how. I guess that's the beauty and the beast of programmable EFI.

Let me know if anyone needs information on how something was done. I'd be glad to share what I've found out so far.

WHAT A RUSH 2thumbs.gif

Does anyone have any suggestions on reference material on the best method to tune an engine from scratch? I'm up for any suggestions from the power tuners out there. hail.gif

Find a dyno and try to do your own tuning and runs if they let you. You can tune in such small increments that you can do 20 to 30 runs per hour.

Good luck!! Tim78zt
