Guest Frank280z
Talking to a guy the other. He had just picked up a new Dakota 4.7 32 valve dohc v8. Sounds very similiar to the tundra engine. Does anybody know what engines they are? Dodges own 4.7? Toyota??
Guest Anonymous
The 4.7 I believe is a sorta-Hemi that just came out recently. Check this link for info on the 4.7: http://www.allpar.com/mopar/47.html Check this link for a IMHO even cooler motor the 5.7 hemi: http://www.allpar.com/mopar/new-mopar-hemi.html The 5.7 Hemi with a mercedes 5sp auto would make IMHO one bad ass Z motor. Phantom
The 4.7L Dodge motor is the same engine that has been used in the Jeep Grand Cherokee since 1999. There are two versions. The standard has 235 HP and the HO has 275-280 HP. Neither is a Hemi but rather a takeoff on the 3.5L V-6. The 5.7L Hemi is its own engine and is being introduced in 2003 in the Dodge trucks. I'm sure the Jeep folks will be clamoring for it as soom as it comes out as it is rated at 357 HP in automotive configuration - lower, 345 HP, for trucks but with lots of torque. Guest SuperDave
Did anyone else get a chill when the number "383" came up in the article?
Phantom
When I think of a Mopar 383 I think of a truck engine. Lot's of torque and Hp but it doesn't rev. My 340 'Cuda ate 383's for breakfast, luch & dinner - and it didn't even have a six-pack.

Guest Anonymous
"When I think of a Mopar 383 I think of a truck engine. Lot's of torque and Hp but it doesn't rev." Huh? A 3.38" stroke and a 4.25" bore and it doesn't rev? Maybe a 2 barrel truck motor, but not any decently setup 383. In fact, they've been called 340's with bigger bores, because the stroke is so similar. Go over to moparts.com in question and answer, and start a thread on how high people rev their 383's. The last one was a week or so ago (it may still be available by searching) and the common speeds quoted were around 6500-7000, with several people headed more towards 8000. Guest John Adkins
I've always heard of the Mopar 383 as the "big block that revs like a small block"...
DavyZ
We had a 383 in our '72 Dodge Monaco and it was a great all around performance motor. Yes, a 440 would have been nicer, but the venerable 383 did us proud!! Davy
